Here where I am food prices depend also on different stores. Some bigger chains such as Lidl and Prisma are less expensive. I went to Lidl today and the price of orange juice was 21 % lower than it is at smaller grocery stores. Milk was also less expensive.
Some things have went down here
The eggs I paid $20 for are now $17. The lettuce that was $5 is now. But other things are still high.
At least gasoline went down some. Itās not as low as I would like but it was a lot worse.
I think itās just corporate greed⦠I mean their profits havenāt really suffered much. Other than the Arizona Tea guys nobody has really stepped up on the side of the consumer.
I bought some food today. Prices (euros) have increased.
Milk (1 litre) from 0.89 to 0.95 in one week, up by 6.7 %
Sausage from 2.5 to 3.0 in a couple of weeks, up by 20 %
There have not been any coffee sales and I have only two 500g packs in my storage any longer.
I do not know how they can justify all these price increases.
Increased energy costs and labor costs.
Because salaries are indexed in Belgium they have gone up 11% in 2022. That puts further pressure on prices, a wage-price spiral .
Prices here in North are higher than prices in Costa Del Sol (see the image):
Ill have a falafel and pita kebeb please.
Phone bill went to 54pounds. Absurd
Yeah but look at those CD rates up to 4.3%. Just throw one million in a CD and get 43.000 for the year and pay uncle sam.
One grilled chicken leg was up from 1.7⬠to 2ā¬, so up by 17% in a couple of weeks. We have discussed these grilled chicken price increases earlier in 2022. In the same way eggs seem to have the tendency to become more expensive.
I have noticed that the price of orange juice has gone up, but then I looked at some inflation data in the world and noticed that the price of orange juice has risen everywhere in the world.
Bird flu has been decimating the supply of chicken worldwide. On top of that, more than half of Canadaās chicken and egg production comes from one province. This province had never before seen flooding that wiped out the majority of chicken farms. They are years away from recovering their capacity. Our country is exporting fewer eggs because of it.
Orange juice: drought, tree blight, and fires in the U.S.
It is interesting, we discussed inflation here on the forum one year ago. It is still a significant problem.
I think there are select items where the increases are legitimate, but for the majority Iām pretty sure itās the grocery chains taking advantage of things and sliding in extra increases.
