Learn Tai-chi in 100 days

Due to my wrist injuries I am going to learn tai-chi instead of yoga.

I started this youtube program today:

Learn Tai Chi at Home in 100 Days (youtube.com)

I have done day 1 and 2 now after an hour of studying the first two moves.

Learning from video is tricky because the teachers are always switching sides unwittingly. This guy accidently did it day two, but he illustrates from the back at the end so it makes sense in the end.

Perhaps it is just me having difficulty maintaining left and right moves face on as it is reversed, who knows…

Anyway i worked his moves left and right over and over again to learn it although the lesson is just for ward off left and then to chasing the sparrow…

I was surprised i made a little sweat. I did not expect to, not like yoga but some which is good.

Does anyone want to join me in this endeavour? I doubt it, but I thought I’d ask…

I’m sure it will be rewarding for all.

Anyone else doing tai-chi out there?

I took Tai chi classes for about a month.

We only met once a week….

I really liked it…

Unfortunately we moved

There is a family member of mine which does tai chi and loves it.
I do yoga and chai tea.

I did Tai Chi when I studied martial arts. I loved it. I don’t do it anymore because the men put cameras around the dojo to watch me and judge me. I haven’t done martial arts in 10 years. Plus I can’t afford it

When I was in my early twenties, I learned about 108 motions or sections of the Yang Long Form of Tai Chi Chuan from a video tape. I think that I did something similar to the form nearly every day for 2 or 3 years. In college, I practiced alongside and occasionally sparred with some Kung Fu guys for a few months. They taught me some more.

I think that I have consistently done a form adapted by me, but loosely based on the first two thirds of the Yang Long Form nearly every day for about a month or more now.

So, yes, I guess someone else is doing Tai Chi out there.

One should be careful when teaching Tai Chi Chuan by that name, though. I have been told, as I recall, that no master would authorize a person to teach his or her form of Tai Chi Chuan without at least 12 years of in-person instruction.

Would you like to elaborate on what you mean by your question about joining you in that endeavor?

I just did my little form today, 6/1/2024. I did not do circling exercises today, so far. An attempt at “Wave Hands Like Clouds” is part of my little form, though.

I did my little form again today. I did it at least a couple of times today. I remember doing a form many times in the middle of the night outside, decades ago.

Is somebody else going to report doing part of a form, like a grasp the bird’s tail or a Tai Chi -style push? This is the third time I’ve posted, in a row, I think. Alternatively, I guess we could let this forum thread die, for now.

I was doing it until i got another injection of meds and the inevitable consequences of avolition, sadly.

It is great that you are doing it though. I am interested still.

Thanks for taking part.

I’m not a doctor.

Avolition. Maybe I should make a short video of someone acting like a zombie, standing up, raising their arms while straightening their knees, holding their arms in front of them, moaning like a zombie, and calling it a Tai Chi opening.

I found this link today:

I don’t know whether using Tai Chi style moves like a dance to help with the memorization of poetry, as Dr. Ailes describes, might help some folks on this forum stay motivated about practice.

“My dance practice also directly helps with my performance poetry practice in terms of body memory and memorization. Going off-book with my poems (memorizing them) was a challenge, and one technique that has made it easier for me has been choreographing movements to accompany the words.”
