Old martial arts school. I loved it there. I also miss doing Tai Chi there. It’s over my budget. But I’m thinking if I volunteer successfully for a while and can get a part time job, I can use the money to go back.
It’s actually also a religious institution and I never got involved in the religious stuff, but I did like the atmosphere, learning Kung Fu, doing weapons classes, and relaxing with Tai Chi.
The head instructor is really nice and good at teaching
thats really cool! maybe you could work out a deal with them? like %50 off a class if you stay behind each class and clean i.e. spray down the mats with cleaning solutions, tidy up etc…
idk if you have that kinda relationship with them but just a suggestion. Its not like theyd be losing out on so much… or maybe even 1 class a week? idk just an idea
i havent tried tai chi but i used to be really interested in it. thought about taking it up.
Here theres a group of people who do tai chi every day in the park… idk if its the same in your town. maybe theres a free group? wish you luck in resuming
There’s a free online group but I don’t want to do it online. I like doing it with others. It’s just how I learned and so it’s how I’m comfortable. There’s one by me that meets in a park that used to be free but now it’s $20/session! No way.
I can relate to this. I used to be in kick boxing and boxing classes and it was one of the most memorable moments i ever had, the sense of community and passion… I hope you do find that sense again and energy to kick life right in the a*s, lol.
I used to love doing Shaolin wushu and Shotokan karate! Unfortunately it’s now too expensive for me and I haven’t done it in about 5 years. We always used to make fun of the Tae Kwan Do studios by calling them “Take One’s Dough” cuz of how expensive they were. I don’t have much flexibility anymore, either, to do martial arts.
@FreeLunch , if I gave you the link to the dojo you’d know where I live. Sorry, but I can’t do that. There are free tai chi classes online that you can Google if that’s what you were referring to.
@Waffles , yeah, martial arts can be very empowering. I did lose a sense of power as I lost a lot of balance due to brain lesions though. I’d be in class and the room would be spinning towards the end of when I was last attending. I’m hoping I’ve recovered enough from the last lesions that I can do it again without as much of a problem.
@WhiteRaven this dojo follows the Shaolin traditions too, along with monk and nun courses. I never joined any of that though.
