Why is it that many people when finding out about your SZ or SZA diagnosis automatically assume that you are stupid or they start treating us like children.
Really demoralizing thing to do.
I guess life isn’t fair.

Stereotype. A psychotiatrist in the hospital once told me that people w sz/sza generally have a low IQ. I think he said 70 is average. He said mine was around 120-130
Those of us who function well seem to be fairly rare. Reading the family side of this forum is depressing AF. I’m not surprised that those who have a lot of experience with SZs react poorly to the label.
Usually sz patients lower iq but some patients with ptsd tend to more intelligent and creative than regular sz patients
Interesting…
It is really irritating. I wish especially medical professionals would make judgments about our capabilities based on how we act, rather than the label we have.
I don’t tell people about my illness. I get treated as a moron all of the time though. I don’t know what it is. I try to sound intelligent. But sounding intelligent and being intelligent are different. Lol, maybe, I AM STUPID?!!!
Please don’t call yourself stupid.
It’s probably nearer 80-90.
I think most schizophrenics lose functioning early on before they have a chance to succeed and achieve success.
There are exceptions to the rule obviously.
I think people should stop having kids and rely on the government/rich to take care of them. Perhaps, a microchip for birth control in the hip like Christopher Langen (high iq person) suggested.
Not sure if im a fan of mob mentality or direct ‘democracy’ aka mob rule.
The best government is one that governs least.
Everyone should pull their own weight and theres too many people and opinions out there that dont matter at all.
The reason why society will fail (is failing) is a lack of morals and belief in God.
Even if I’m not too clever in certain ways my best ranks better than these people.

Have you ever thought of turning your talents into something more concrete like an article or something?
I wouldn’t say we are stupid. You’re already smart if you know how to use technology like this forum, a computer, a cellphone, or even watching tv, radio, reading, etc
I would say the intelligence is still there mostly but if you have negative symptoms like me, you lack the drive and energy to fully use that intelligence. I blame both, the meds and the sz.
I would if I thought I could write anything as good or better than what has already been written.
It can also happen the other way round i.e because you’re clever in some ways you’re expected to be clever in all ways. When you fail to match up to what’s expected you’re then seen as lazy/obstructive/passive aggressive etc.
I think a lot of society is founded on ableism. Once you are considered to have a disability you are considered to be less than average especially in intelligence. I read in a book that a lot of Sz patients back in the day were usually of higher intelligence and usually had to settle for partners with lower intelligence most of the time. Though now I think Sz affects people from high to low IQ’s.
I think it’s because, under pressure, we do stupid things that anyone else would know better about.
I don’t bother telling people any more. None of their business. I get measured just like anyone else, and I don’t need sympathy or belittling because I have a mental illness (s)
I don’t tell most people except for the professionals like certain doctors that need to know.
