Because when we’re actually psychotic - we’re pretty low IQ; that’s my experience at least. Otherwise I wouldn’t have ever thought I was a disciple of a religious order lol

I do, people think I’ll recover at any time and suddenly make the most of life - that’s one thing I deal with a lot

Whilst my IQ hasn’t been formally tested recently - in the current clinic, I’m regarded as a high functioning individual

This forum should not be used as a measure for how intelligent the average person with schizophrenia/schizoaffective is. There are many with sz/sz-a who would struggle to use a forum such as this. One thing I have heard, not totally sure how true it is, is that the schizophrenic person with a high IQ had a higher IQ pre developing severe mental illness.

A better question is why are you constant.comparing yourself to what an average sz may be to try to self undiagnose yourself?

I also get very disturbed in my mind. Can’t focus, can’t memorise, can’t communicate properly. That indeed puts the iq on lower level.

I think IQ tests that I took just were recognizing patterns and similarity’s that’s all. I don’t think they are good for saying how intelligent a person is. Everyone on this site is very intelligent to me.

  2. Not everyone seems to think that people with schizophrenia have lower IQ’s.

I mentioned that concept to a co-worker once, and he indicated that he thought that most schizophrenics were super-intelligent. Some people associate genius with madness. Some people may have even been influenced by Hollywood depictions of schizophrenic geniuses or mad geniuses. Some ancient, extremely wise people seem to have explored madness, according to some records.

  1. I happen to think that some schizophrenics have brain damage because they’ve done street drugs.

  2. I also happen to think that some substances, such as Amyloban-3399, can help to increase neuroplasticity and help to heal brain damage, if the street drugs are stopped, and not resumed.

No matter how one attempts to define intelligence in a physical being, wouldn’t physical brain damage tend to reduce it?
