Is there anything you can do about scam phone calls? I get about 3 a week now and it is really starting to irritate me.
soon In the future they will have technology that will block spam phone calls.
As of now, if I don’t know who it is I reject the call right away. If they keep calling I Block them.
I am thinking of getting a new number and making it x directory. It is just annoying having to do with these lousy people that prey on vulnerable people.
Worst thing i ever did was give out my number on a pay day loan website. I was getting 6 to 8 calls and texts a day. Thank God i could block them one by one.
3 a week? Hah, I get about 3 an hour! I’ve done a lot of research on this and it’s everyone they call! Not just the vulnerable. You can block each call but you will run out of space. The robo calls have hundreds of different telephone numbers. I read that they are able to dial 10,000 numbers minute. They can also spoof, which means some of there numbers are generated to look like your area code or even names of people you may know. This is on the news all the time as people are fed up, but there’s nothing they can do to keep up with the technology. I read it takes them a lot of investigation to bring one company down and by the time they do that 5 more pop up! Changing your number will only help for a few weeks, if that! They can easily get your new number. You get the option of saying put me on the do not call list, but it’s a trap. They will not put you on the do not call list. They will try to get you to say the word yes at any point! Not so much a yes I want to buy, but they are recording each call and they may ask you, “can you hear me?” Or is this “so in so to get a yes response” the government has realized the do not call list is a joke bc that only works, if it works for either legitimate telemarketers or ones that do not have the multiple telephone numbers! I read that the best way to get them to stop calling you is for you to annoy them until they get tired of you wasting their time. I carefully talk to them and annoy the crap outta them. I either say why and what do you mean (nothing else) until they hang up. But I’ve recently started singing 99 bottles of beer on the wall to them and they hang up! It’s annoying as hell!
I use an app called Should I Answer for my Droid phone. It blocks about 99% of spam calls. Uses crowd sourcing to determine spam numbers. It’s wonderful. I’m sure there’s something comparable for those who are cursed with Apple products.
What about only using a smartphone? I get very few telemarketers on it. I dont use a landline.
We get about 5 scam phone calls a day if not more!
We just ignore numbers we don’t recognize.
Don’t answer the phone.
They come in waves here.
Sometimes they call me 10x a day, sometimes they don’t call me for months. Their number looks regional and like a real number, so I pick up because I’m scared of missing out if someone needs to reach me.
Then someone with a broken indian acccent goes “Yes hello this is Julia from Microsoft tech support…” and I hang up. If they keep calling I get angry and yell “You call me again, I call the police” and hang up.
This one time I didn’t hang up quick enough, and I managed to hear the lady saying “okay miss, you call the police, I call you many hundred times”
The audacity of these people!
I tried the TPS . It resulted in a fewer such calls , but didn’t stop them entirely.
If you have a cell phone you could block the number(s). If it’s real bad, get a new number.
They can get the new numbers. They have very advanced technology
Getting upwards of 30 calls per day on my smartphone as my number obviously made it into some caller databases.
Wtf? This never happened to me.
I just got scammed on eBay and Paypal yesterday. They hacked someones account and bought a laptop off me and I was stupid enough to send it to an address sent on eBay by the hacker, and now it’s on its way to them and I have no seller protection. The police have been useless and I cannot get through to royal mail. I cannot afford to lose this money at all. I am so angry that these people will get my property. The police have their address but have not said they will go there.
My number was published internationally at one point as I was selling stock photography. I recently changed it. It was getting nuts towards the end, had to install a blocking app. Now I’m getting phone calls from bill collectors as the owner of the previous number was apparently a deadbeat.
Lol… You made me laugh
I get some creepy ones where they don’t say nothing on the line and hang up. I try to call back and the number doesn’t exist, LOL. So I feel you, but I don’t have them as often as you. So the only thing I can give as advice is have patience and try to note the pattern of the numbers, if that makes sense.
We no longer answer the phone in this house because it’s Pakistanis calling all the time trying to get your credit card…just when you thought home was safe.
I get the same call about once every two days. It’s a fake Microsoft call that says that my computer is infected. So they want ALL of my details such that they will be able to access my computer and all its contents. So these days I don’t answer my home landline phone. But the guy still says,":Hello…Hello, is anybody there ?", and he says so even though the phone automatically said leave a message after the beep.
