Whether its gum, lozenges, patch, cigs, vape or anything else, they all give you your nicotine fix, but when you stop any of them your craving for nicotine comes back, and that means your going to have to deal with withdrawal, cold turkey is essentially the only way to quit. The only other alternative are drugs like chantix but I never tried that because it wasn’t available when I first tried quitting and it was relatively new when I finally quit, I had never heard of it and my doctor never mentioned it.
I quit cold turkey but it took me several attempts over a period of about a decade. I finally did it when I turned 30. I tried the patch, and it did get rid of the cravings, but when you take off the patch the nicotine cravings come back. Instead of getting your nicotine from a cigarette your getting it from the patch, unfortunately I found that in the end you just gotta quit cold turkey and suffer through the withdrawals. The first month is the hardest, but it does get much easier as time passes.
I quit 13 years ago. I don’t even think about smoking anymore. And I live with 2 heavy smokers.
