We have no problems with food. We even eat out on occasion. My dad has multiple sources of income, plus my moms soc sec, plus my contributions. The food prices are noticeable, but my dad does most of the grocery shopping and has multiple sources of income. It’s an annoyance, but not something that is going to make us go without.

We are fortunate.

Luckily we are not good insecure. Though a lot of food does go on credit cards.

Well I’m not the only one. The food bank is running low, and charitable organizations are trying to collect food donations from private citizens here.

My only income is my disability check. The clinic goes to the Food Bank twice a month and gets food for the clients They also have cereal for breakfast, and a basic hot lunch M - F

Yeah, I also eat breakfast and lunch at my clubhouse on weekdays to save money. It’s not always the kinds of food my primary care doctor wants me to eat, but it’s free. Food is so expensive right now, looking at over $5 for a gallon of milk and $6-7 for a loaf of bread. I sometimes use the food bank, too, but mostly for canned/frozen stuff as their produce is usually nasty and moldy.

we are stocked up on canned goods for this month so it will be ok, but talk about not desired food…oh well. I love ravioli and can eat it almost every day. ha

I know the feeling. I’m extremely grateful for whatever food I get from the Salvation Army. I’m allowed one box of food a month, so I buy what I can and get what the Food Bank has too.

I’ve been grateful for the extra food benefits I receive from the pandemic but they’re stopping the extra payments in March. I hope it doesn’t get lowered too much. I have a feeling I may end up going to food pantries and scraping by like I used to.

@DireStraightsJacket where did you hear that they are ending extra food stamps in march??

Jukebox, it may be different where you live. I live in New Mexico and the SNAP Providers app had a notice that February will be the last month of Emergency allotted EBT.

We are secure and can eat pretty good. Trouble is there’s only two of us and everything is going up quite a bit and a lot more than inflation. The cost of our regular shop has gone up significantly but we are still able to eat good food.

I have enough to eat healthily and also go out for a dinner or drink now and then. I don’t think I can complain. My income is okay, and food is a priority for me. I volunteer and thus get free organic veggies, soup, coffee or tea. But I am very frugal with some other things. I do not fly or own a car. I hardly buy other things. I have no electronics in my home except for this cheap secondhand laptop and an old nokia. I try not spend money on habits. Etc.

I am okay now. But do worry about rising prices, also for others who have it worse. And I worry sometimes about things breaking down, like my 12 y/o washing machine.

I’m so sorry for anyone who is food insecure right now. Growing up I always had plenty of food. When i was living on the streets I would go times without much food but even then soup kitchens were around. Now, i have plenty of food and feel so fortunate and grateful.

I have been doing ok since i got on food stamps. Without it id be a lot worse off. I went through a stretch of food insecurity in 2021, i wish it on no one. I ate whatever i was given and lots of it was unhealthy food and made my health worse and im still recovering from that.

Sorry, that must have been stressful. I had a period when I switched between eating basic healthy food (days when kiddo was there) and eating plain rice only (days when I was on my own). This was already stressful.

It upsets me that some of the food charities donate very unhealthy food. Loads of cookies and cakes and white bread. Even borderline rotten things. You can do that to bridge a short period of time (the cookies, not the rotten stuff). But in the long run, it is harmful to people.

We have a place here that is nice. Three days a week they cook free healthy food for & with the neighbours and sometimes the kids. Soup, salad, mashed-potato/vegetable-dishes with fresh ingredients.

I remember when I was homeless in California many years ago I would go to a church service and afterwards they would serve us usually soup , and we could take some bread with us to eat later(i would take an extra loaf to handout to some of the other people I hung out with). It was ok food. Maybe if you are experiencing food insecurity you could try a church?
