People who exercise are happier

I just heard this in the news yesterday.

Or is it because they’re happier , they then exercise?

I think that exercising is good for preventing depression, there may be some studies on the net, also in the news I heard that crying is also healthy, I rarely cry, I think it is something to do with emotions and wellbeing.

Actually it’s supposed to be really good for schizophrenia.

I find exercising so hard when I’m depressed it’s like my motivation chamical to excercise is being blocked quite somewhat. However I will be hljoining a gym tomorrow with another person so that should help. That’s the plan! I do think excercise makes you happier but in particular wen I’m not on aripiprazole. Its quite a travel to get to this gym but still

We live in a nice neighborhood so going for walks always makes me feel happy. The scenery and breeze from the canopy of trees shields me from the sun. But! It’s been so humid and hot lately, that it’s hard to be out. I try to walk on the treadmill, but it’s not the same.

It works if you work it! For me exercise is an essential part of my day! I broke some ribs awhile ago and just walked, and that was good, too. Do eet, exercise that is! Rib breaking is for me alone :hugs:

I have noticed that I have not so many depressive thoughts when I ride my bicycle, just sitting alone without any exercising may trigger thoughts causing depression, I like bicycling and maybe just going to the city park to sit and watch birds and other animals.

I am one of those that my depression is mostly controlled through exercise. Me going to the gym establishes a routine and if i dont follow it, i will fall into this pit of dis pare where i will not shower, shave, eat, only sleep for weeks at a time. I do not take anti depressants. i have tried many but all have such adverse side effects. I do “enjoy” the gym, but you will not find me running to it, nor talking to other ppl about work out routines or what supplements they take. The gym is literally this form of therapy that is apart of my self care routine. My therapist asks me how manytimes ive bee nto the gym the past weeks. When my depression and delusions really act up, ill avoid the gym all together. Ironiclly, i kinda despise going to the gym, yet when i am activly going as i should be, ,my state of mind seems to be “clearer”. Im less likely to get things i need to get done by not going to the gym as opposed to going. Its like i need to get the boulder moving from a stopping position, but once it gets up and going the momentum takes the rest. I have to do this each day. I feel like a lot of us have our own form of this going on in there lives.

Does it make me happier?
Nah, happiness is a choice.
But i do feel better.
Its a small goal that when i accomplish, its a victory i earned, which boosts esteem.

Plus there’s the whole releasing of endorphins when pushing the body past the resting state.
