Even the social worker…cracking jokes about this lady’s “crazy” neighbor. She was schizophrenic from what she described. Really frustrated me. I interrupted and said “can’t they get this lady some help”. Because apparently the police were involved…and I just got interrupted and ignored. Very frustrating.
The indifference of the world. It is difficult to go around correcting people all the time, clearing up misunderstandings.
That doesn’t sound like a very good environment to heal in. Was this today?
yeah less than 2 hours ago. I’m thinking of switching out of this group and going to the dual diagnosis group at the mental health clubhouse instead. No offense to opiate addicts, but the ones ive met without mental health issues seem to have a smug manner about them that theyre better than “crazy”. It’s just so frustrating, the stigma, the ignorance, the lack of sensitivity. I called up like 4 people including my therapist at the group. But yeah I don’t think I’m going back to this group. it was “wack”
I would see if you could talk to the social worker one on one and explain about having MI and that you felt very uncomfortable with how things were handled in group yesterday. Explain that you can identify with the neighbor’s symptoms… Throw in that people with disabilities are often discriminated against and you would really like to see if the neighbor could get some help.
If you don’t feel comfortable talking to the social worker, maybe write it in a letter and just hand it to her saying you;d like her to read it.
Well, I understand you leaving the group I would still mail the letter to the social worker. Sometimes people aren’t aware of how their ignorance effects people.
Yea, don’t go back. There are better ways for you to spend your time than that!
I left a message for her colleague, the other social worker and explained the situation, so maybe she’ll confront her and tell her I felt uncomfortable. But still the vibe I got from the group, I don’t wanna go back.
I was posting as you were and then edited for your post and you posting again same time…lol
I agree no need to go back to that group. Hopefully the colleague will pass the info along. Social workers especially should be more in the know.
i hate when people who havent experienced psychosis use the word crazy in any context
