I told you all about feeling stigmatized for mental illness in my group, I decided instead of quitting the group I’m gonna take a week or two off. Idk why it just seems right to do. I’ll go to aa instead tonight of the group.
what kind of group is it? What are the patients being treated for?
It’s dual diagnosed but focused more on substance abuse. There might be one person in the group with sz but most are depression and anxiety along with heroin and or alcohol addictions
This was my original thread on it
Hmm that doesn’t sound all that professional to me.
I would see a schizophrenia group. I mean really, schizophrenia is so distinct that even if there is substance abuse, the treatment should be primarily for schizophrenia, which causes the substance abuse.
It looks like they want to treat your schizophrenia by treating substance abuse, which is incorrect- you treat schizophrenia by abusing the right drugs, not the fun party drugs. I mean really though. You get nice and dependent on an antipsychotic and then begin to tolerate it and have less side effects, or at least learn to live with the side effects.
Schizophrenia is primarily a disorder in the way we think, not in behavior. It doesn’t make sense to me to target the practically guaranteed problem of substance abuse that comes with schizophrenia and then act like the two are separate, when they just are not separate, it is just incorrect.
If anything, targeting the way you cope with schizophrenia symptoms should be happening, because substance abuse is just unhealthy coping. The problem is that schizophrenia is distinct, and from the very act of scheduling a therapy session to the microexpressions when you make eye contact with a schizophrenia patient, it all needs specialized training.
Yeah making fun of crazy people probably doesn’t feel good when you are there because unless you go there, you act like a crazy person, yeah.
Heroin and alcohol should be treated aside from schizophrenia. You should be in TWO treatments, one for substance, one for schizophrenia. I mean generally speaking, schizophrenia is a whole different brain.
that is…if it is heroin or alcohol you have problem with.
