None of my usual tricks for restricting calories yet feeling full are working while I’m on olanzapine (Zyprexa). What would you

You do? This med with risperidone are helping me a lot but I’m so unbelievably hungry all the time.

if it is possible you can change your antipsychotics. if not you should take weight loss drugs like metformin which will help also in reducing your feeling of hunger.

Can you get lybalvi which is a mixture of olanzapine and samidorphin? It curbs hunger while giving the relaible drug of olanzapine.

My insurance doesn’t cover it and it’s extremely expensive. Because I have Medicare, I don’t qualify for manufacturer coupons - it’s literally against the law to use them. So stupid!

@MIDO , I get super sick to my stomach with Metformin for some weird reason even if I take it with food. I can’t afford the other drugs like ozempic etc

@LilyoftheValley I’d ask your dr for the generic wafer olanzapine (used to be called zyprexa zydis). I found out about them from a hospital dr who told me that this form doesn’t cause the weight gain like the pills might do to some people.

The wafers dissolve. That’s the form that I take and I am maintaining my weight on olanzapine and Rexulti. I lost most of my seroquel weight by switching to this form of generic olanzapine. Olanzapine is such a helpful medication. I’m glad it’s working out for you!

I realised that chewing meds goes easier with hunger.
Before I would swallow my Clozapine and in an hour I would be extremly hungry.

I began to chew and disolve in my mouth.

It has something to do with holinergic process.

Fyi I also chewed Olanzapine.

Maybe chewing gum can help? Ok not sure but it used to help me when I was dieting. Makes me feel like I’m eating candy when it’s rely only like 5 calories. Careful with artificial sweeteners tho

@POET chewing gum hurts my jaw, but maybe a low calorie mint every so often?

I’m not sure to be honest. Usually it’s gum cause it gives you something to chew on for a while. Have you tried psyllium fiber? I like it. I know you already exercise but yea just wanted to add I’m almost never hungry when I’m moving. It’s only when I sit down I get hungry. I’m sure you can find some more hacks don’t lose hope!

I can’t take fiber due to gastrointestinal issues. I’m getting a work up on it in December though.
