I literally just told my Dr to call it a thought disorder and not sz
Iâve seen the name/label for many things changed over my lifetime to remove stigma. I have not seen a single instance of stigma being lessened because of this. However, I have seen cases where things have been made worse.
Letâs just donât.
Good point never thought of it like that.
I think this topic crops up at least once a month.
I think weâve said this a hundred times on this site.
but thanks.
Sorry my bad I didnât know.
well, idk, what do you want to call Down syndrome?
When this topic came up a couple of years ago I suggested a friendlier term for our afflictionâŚ
âSchizoDoodlyBopâ
It has a nice harmless ring to it.
Eh? Huh??
When is the community is SZ and providers going deal with this. It is a serious issue. Neural atypical is a start. Get this moving.
No worries. No need to apologize. Just stating a fact. It gets brought up a lot.
Well nothing will be done without complaining, mobilizing and pushing the medical community.
Topics get recycled over and over all the time- with new insight and perspectives.
You can skip topics if it doesnât mean anything to you.
I canât. I need to monitor topics. And I wasnât complaining. If someone wants to bring up this topic again, it doesnât bother me. Just stating the facts.
Iâll back this if we get a dancing purple dino as our mascot.
Schizophrenia is defined by its symptoms and not its name.
The name âschizophreniaâ is an archaic term and sounds too clinical.
I say change the name.
âSplit mindâ doesnât make sense.
I personally donât see the point in changing it, but thatâs just me. Changing the name wonât change the fact that you have the same condition.
But it could reduce some of the stigma @Bowens
Would it? Iâm not so sure. Is bipolar really any better than Manic depressive?
In Japan they changed the name and the stigma dropped off some.
