My husband insisted I go ahead and

Make tonight’s chili with ground beef that’s 1 day past the use or freeze by date. Would you eat it? I think I’m skipping dinner tonight

I’d eat that. If it’s one day past and doesn’t smell funny, no problemos.

Should be fine.

Beef is pretty stable…

I personally wouldn’t eat it. I’m a little paranoid of eating foods past the expiry/best before date.

As long as it smells right and is the right color still, I would eat it. Ground beef should be reddish, inside and out but if it’s starting to turn grey or brown it means it’s spoiling. “Use by” dates do not always mean an item has expired. It sometimes means that’s when they start to lose their freshness or taste. It’s pretty easy to tell if ground beef is spoiled by the look and smell.

There was no smell and it was pink

It should be alright then.

I’ll eat it if it still has nice colour and smells okay, 2/3 days past even.

There is an app where they sell cheap expired food and meat but the meat is frozen so should be good. There is also a website where they sell cheap expired protein bars. But these have not expired long time ago, more like expired by up to 2 weeks. There is also an app where they sell restaurant cooked food at the end of the day, extra food they didn’t sell. Its good to prevent waste.

Got it @Aziz . I’m a little ocd about dates on food. It’s a thing with me. I still haven’t decided if I’m eating dinner tonight or not. I’m overweight anyway so it not like I need the calories

I understand being a little paranoid, but really if you did eat it I think it’d be fine. Stores need to label things within stricter parameters to cover themselves in case anything happens. But don’t eat it if you aren’t comfortable. Nothing good comes of that either.

Thanks @TheIdlerWheel . I’ve had food poisoning multiple times. It was super awful.

Yeah, that isn’t something you forget quickly. I don’t blame you for playing it safe.

One time, I went to a restaurant and got so sick afterwards, the dr taking my case called the cdc for an investigation. It turned out I ate undercooked sausage and undercooked chicken and got sick from both. My intestines were literally bleeding! Ugh! Never again!!!

Can you have cereal tonite as a dessert (my SIL does this and I’ve recently been trying to lose weight this way)?

That’s so terrifying. I love eating out at restaurants but I have to push away all the thoughts of what might be lurking. I really only go to a few places where I know the owners and can be reasonably comfortable.
I’m so sorry that happened to you. That’s just awful!
I like to have a few healthy packaged things on hand when I’m overthinking and need sustenance. (That wasn’t to imply you’re overthinking. I definitely understand how you’d feel like you do)

It should be fine but I personally wouldn’t eat it because I’m paranoid and a hypochondriac when it comes to expired foods.

I can but I probably will have some Cheetos instead because my husband bought me a bag today.

Starting tomorrow, I plan to do better cutting calories.
