Just ate some hummus that expired in 2017

Lots of people here really like it. I found it in the back of my fridge. It was just a single serving of hummus with around 100 calories. I got a spoon and took a bite then looked at the package and it said best before a date in 2017. Hopefully I don’t get sick. I think I’ll be okay.

If it was a sealed single serving, and it didn’t taste bad, you’re probably fine.

If it tasted fine you’re probably going to be fine. I’ve eaten a ton of expired food and never gotten sick from it. Best buy and sell by dates are a joke. I mean, even bottles of water have expiration dates. And cans of food that last 20 years expire in 3.

I wouldn’t worry.

Yeah it was sealed single serving. Thanks everyone.

Those dates are really a “optimal freshness date”. Doesn’t mean it’s rotten. Grocery stores just take them off the shelf after the date, and manufacturers want food to taste as good as possible so they recommend you eat it before a certain time

I’ve got a big box full of tinned food for when my little village gets snowed in in the winter. A lot of those tins are out of date but really tinned food lasts for ages.

As long as it was refrigerated you’ll be fine.
