Question about cooked chicken

I can’t get a clear answer on Google because it’s all about raw chicken. I bought some cooked shredded chicken from the grocery deli that I forgot about (happens a lot to me :frowning: ). The sell by date (doesn’t say use by) was 2 days ago. Is it still OK to eat today? I was going to cook it in a casserole

The test with meat is to smell it. If it smells bad - trust your nose. 2 days isn’t very long. If it doesn’t smell bad its probably okay for another day or two. Most sell by dates are modest to avoid law suits. Just make sure you eat your casserole soon and not in several days time.

Thanks it smells ok but it’s hard for me to tell myself because I think all meat smells weird. I’ll ask my husband to sniff he has a better idea about it than me

it should still be good 2 days past the sell by date, thats just the date that stores sell something, some stores if it doesnt sell by the sell by date they send it to food pantries who freeze it to keep it good longer and give to people in need
