Past date foods from the pantry?

Ok. So I got 3 large containers of cottage cheese that are all a week past the best by date. I put 2 in the freezer and 1 in the fridge. But should I eat it? It tends to be safe for about 1 week after the date but it’s at the 1 week mark now.

Also, I got shrimp dated yesterday that I went ahead and put in the freezer . Would you eat that???

The walnuts, sparkling waters, and chickpeas are also way past the date but they’re fine. I’ll for sure eat those.

The grapes are good too luckily.

The shrimp may be ok, smell it.

The cottage cheese I doubt it ok cuz a week is a long time.

I’m sorry for your condition.

That’s how they get donated food, it’s either about to expire or has expired. You can google how long it’s actually good for!

I personally wouldn’t eat the cottage cheese or shrimp but that’s just how I think.
I have severe OCD and anxiety

They are probably ok to consume but in the end it’s your choice.

I won’t tell you what to do

@shutterbug @Wave @Moon @jukebox @FreeLunch

So in re the cottage cheese it’s good for 7-14 days after the date if still sealed and continuously refrigerated so I’ll eat a small amount today and see how I feel. I looked it up

In re the shrimp, I’m going to let my husband decide since I hate shrimp. In the meantime I have it in the freezer.

It’s ok @anon28667878 . Everyone has issues, I’m just being vocal on thdd ex forum about mine. It helps me to process through it. Thanks for caring

If it expires today then it is probably good for at least three days after today even if not frozen, but I would not leave it in the freezer for over a month. Freezers slow spoilage, they don’t arrest it completely.

Oh ok @shutterbug . The shrimp is one day past the date as of today.

Some of the people where I live have gotten day old raw chicken free from the grocery store. I think it’s safe. Eating out of trash cans is another matter. I’ve done a little bit of that. It’s a lot more dangerous to do when the weather is hot than when it is cold. As long as the food is sealed from the dirty stuff in the dumpster it is probably safe. It would probably be safer to eat at the soup kitchens, but skid row has its hazards for me.

Yeah, dumpster diving in the warmer months is a really bad idea. My husband thinks the shrimp is fine

I have my SNAP benefits now, so if I ever have to go out on the street I will have that going for me.

I’m so glad you have SNAP! That’s very good news.

I only get $23 from snap, I thought I would qualify for more but I don’t.

also i think they freeze some of their stuff. you could inquire about that perhaps? Im no expert but i think the food bank sometimes freezes stuff if they see it going out of date. i personally would eat the cheese. i know its not preserved but they age cheese like 20 years and its still good  some people eat some funky cheese haha a week or two aint nothin.

i hope you dont feel any ways about having past date food btw. Its a lot of marketing in my books. It would literally still be edible 20 years from now. I watch this guy on youtube who eats old military rations and he eats food thats like 50-100 years old a lot of the time! its not an expiry date its more like a “perfect until” date. still good long after.

even water has a “expiry” date… think about that :stuck_out_tongue:

@POET cottage cheese is very different from regular cheese. After discussing it with my husband, we decided it’s too old and I threw it out. It wasn’t frozen.
