Most important thing sz has taught you?

For me, it is that “no man is an island”. It’s important to reach out and not isolate yourself when you face hard times.

I’d love to hear some of your guys answers <3

It has humbled me. Before I was ignorant (Like most people) to mental illness, and the effects of disability on other people.

A few trips to hospital teaches you of the struggles many face, and we’re not alone

Pretty similar to what you say

It taught me that you can achieve the impossible, it just takes longer.

I learned is beautiful to be special and that my creativity with words is who I am and I don’t regret anymore I have schizophrenia. Is just a part of me.

When I saw different handicapped people before schizophrenia, they were different to me and I had an impression or reaction to them. Now I am sort of among them.

Its not really the “most important” thing, but yesterday I looked at a picture of me during schizophrenia and one on my passport before schizophrenia and I liked the me from before schizophrenia much better. On the one with schizophrenia I looked unhinged or haggardly (not sure if that are the right words, my english is not so good). I didn’t like my expression at all. On the passport I looked like I was in one acceptable place mentally.

It’s quite depressing but it made me make up this quote/saying :

“The more help you need, the less you get and
The less help you need, the more you get”

I live by that quote now.

I guess it must be a combination between having a debiltating disease and wisdom from growing older and more experienced.

It has learned me to see everyone. Behind every stranger is a story that we don’t know, even if you know someone well you don’t know everything or all their secrets, and it’s important to be humble to that fact. I have become kinder, much more open minded and positive. In some ways my life is easier now than before sz.

I came up with that same quote in the 1980’s! Grape minds think alike.

I learned that “it’s okay to not be okay”…that made me feel like I’m still a good person even when I’m doing poorly.

Schizophrenia has taught me to be wary of the normal people I disclose to because few normal people know or understand what schizophrenia is. Normal people fear, are afraid and are prejudice against those people with schizophrenia because normal have no knowledge about the disease other than its name.

It is normal for people to fear or be against something they do not understand.

Before schizophrenia came I didn’t know it is possible to suffer so much in this unfortunate world.
