Most important thing sz has taught you?

I am not allowed to tell you.

I actually learned to be more grateful. Before I was diagnosed with schizophrenia I took my senses for granted. I never in million years thought that one day they will get distorted, especially my vision and hearing sense. Now when the AP and AD are somehow working I appreciate my senses even more. Thank you God!

“It’s not that I’m crazy or there’s something wrong with me, I’m just a person stuck in an unusually situation that I can’t help”. My dad has BPD and bipolar, he may not suffer from psychosis of some form but his perception of reality can be distorted sometimes, I think it applies just as much. It really changed my perspective on mental illness overall.

That there is more to life than scientific materialism says there is.

It’s taught me who my friends are, and that my dad and sister really care about me.

Nothing I couldn’t have learnt the easy way. Suffering is an overrated teacher.

That not all Doctors are equal. Some Doctors upon learning your diagnosis treat you like crap. Schiz has taught me to keep moving on until finding a Doctor that treats one with dignity and respect.

Dump the people who treat you like a pile of doggy doo.

@ThePickinSkunk Actually modern mores demand that dog owners treat dog brownies with the utmost respect. :cat:

Yes I agree with @shutterbug

The impossible just takes longer with us but it’s worth it still.

I believe that we can really appreciate stuff deeply when we had to go through this suffering first.

S’all good, I think.

It has taught me some compassion, espescially for those in pain.

I never felt real pain before sz, and now having been through what I’ve been through I can understand people who can’t live a normal life due to illness, and that life in general is tough.

I’m still not one of the most compassionate people out there, but I started from a very discompassionate place.

Taught me to treasure the time I have with my friends(peer support specialists/whoever), family and whoever comes into my life.

Or what happens when you don’t take meds

It has made me anti intoxication person. I still think though those plants are for medicine. I just don’t have an ailment that needs them.

I still think we should take them. If one day I go to jail and get beaten up by criminals in there and when I come out, they may have to increase the dose again.

I learnt with schizophrenia to never feel sorry for yourself. Theres always someone with worse symptoms than you and less insight.

You soon find out who your real friends are as well. (in my case none lol  )

Sza taught me two things about myself: 1. That I have a superhuman capacity for suffering, and 2. That I have an amazing capacity to overcome all odds, if I really set my mind to it.
