Might ditch the weight lifting

Have been doing more lifting recently in order to try to incorporate the upper body more…my theory was that it would help me burn more calories because I wouldn’t just be walking like I used to, but using upper and lower body.

But it turns out my weight loss is happening a lot slower than it did when I was just doing 100% cardio… As a result I’m thinking of giving up the weights and going for a long journey each day walking.

I was losing like a pound a day doing 25,000 steps before

Now I’m loosing like .5 pounds a day and I’m getting impatient lol. Thanks for reading…just a vent… hope y’all are doing well.

That’s pretty good progress in my opinion. I think you’re doing well man. I wish you all the best.

Thanks bro…yea I agree it’s scientifically and statistically pretty good. But it’s just that now I’ve seen I can do much better I feel the need to. Not only that I’d like to finish my goal so I can focus on other things like working. I don’t like having multiple goals at once lol

Just wanna finish this as fast as possible

You’re probably gaining muscle, which weighs more than fat. Weight isn’t the only thing to consider. I bet Arnold Schwarzenegger was technically obese as well.

Haha true man…actually good point. Kinda forgot about that. It’s just I don’t know for sure…it’s like a game to me at times how much I can make the scale move lol

Maybe in just experiencing a pump and thus holding on to more blood volume within my muscles or like fluid weight. I doubt I’ve packed on any actual muscle as I think that takes months… (I could be wrong I know very little about weight lifting)

As Bowens beat me to saying, weight training might make it look like you’re not losing any fat, whereas in fact you are replacing fat with muscle, which is great.

Yea I hear people say that a lot. Is it really that prominent though? I thought muscle was accumulated much slower.
Like you can lose maybe 30 pounds in a month of fat but how much muscle can you put on? My uneducated guess is less than a pound… So just unsure

According to Dr google:

Research investigating lean muscle gain over the course of a month is limited,2 but experts suggest that most healthy individuals can gain 1 to 2 pounds of lean muscle mass per month.

So even if I gained one pound of muscle I think it is indeed mostly just slow fat loss due to less cardio…idk.

I think I remember you said you were into weight lifting right @Andrey ?

Hmm don’t think I ever said that.
I used to go to the gym and bench press or use different devices for my back and arm muscles, but that was long ago. More recently I was into running and even did a marathon shortly before coming down with sz. Right now I am limited to short jogging sessions or long walks, as my energy levels are way lower than before.

You are probably building muscle from the weight lifting. That’s why you are not losing weight as fast as when you are doing strictly cardio.

Oh I see bro. Sorry I must be thinking of someone else. I wonder what it’s like to run a marathon…gotta have some endurance for that dang

Yea good point. I mean you’re right it is the trade off essentially. I’m not losing weight but I am gaining size. Only problem is I don’t really care about being big I just wanna lose my belly haha

So probably gonna do more cardio atleast for a while

also good to know that lifting weights makes your body retain slightly more water. so that could also affect the scale. lifting while losing weight is good as to not lose muscle and a balanced combo of cardio and weights is best

Really dude…hmmm… Maybe that could be why then. Because it’s only like 9 days in and I’ve lost 6 pounds.

Maybe the extra 3 pounds I failed to lose is pure water weight? I didn’t know weight lifting for sure makes you retain water… I mena I guess your arms get inflamed which would mean greater fluid volume I guess but was just guessing…thanks for the info!

A pound a day is insanely fast. If you’ve lost a lot of weight it will slow down naturally. I’m 79 down and have been on the struggle bus trying to get to 80 pounds down this past week and a half.

Yes, it took me a year to get in shape. 3 weekly running sessions, plus a 1hr of continuous swimming session every weekend. I was a race horse back then. Could do a semi-marathon in 2 hours tops, but a full marathon is a different animal, I did it in roughly 5 hours.

Dang sorry to hear about that struggle. Yea i guess that’s right too.its just that I was able to do it before so trying to figure out why I can’t do it now.

Again I don’t mean to complain. Just saying if I have the choice between loosing 1 pound a day with pure cardio and .6 pounds a day with weight lifting, I’ll take the cardio 100% haha

Dang that’s crazy dude. Maybe one day I’ll do a half marathon… Maybe :joy:

To be the most successful, you need to do cardio, weight training, and restricting calories. Weight training builds muscle. The more muscle you have, the more fat you burn. Think on that before you quit

Oh I get it! Keep in mind that the more muscle one has the more calories they burn. People are successful losing weight without much cardio and focusing more on lifting weights. I’m not an expert in fitness, but do some research and you’ll see a healthy mix is a good option. That’s what I’ve been doing, and I’m seeing great results. 79 lbs. down, ten inches off my waist, and an average of 1-3 inches of muscle added to various parts of my body.
