L-theanine

Have your tried it? Has it been helpful? I’m thinking about taking it for anxiety. I’m already on clonazepam .5mg in addition to anti-psychotics and a mood stabilizer.

LS! I drink a lot of tea. But I did not buy l theanine. Now I am just having a large pot of organic white Pai Mu Tan tea. This really does a miracle for me.

I asked my pdoc if I could take it. I take a 200 mg tablet most days but have not noticed any change.

I freakin love l-theanine.

I take 100mg capsules 4-5 times a day (Every 3 to 4 hours)
I also take a 200mg capsule before bed.

Ever since my doctor wanted me off olanzapine (I am now on Lurasidone) I have had anxiety and agitation, like it can get really bad, the agitation is simply awful, I suffer bad. I take l-theanine and within 1/2 hour I feel so much better. It is quick acting. I use the NOW brand.

I am also on 1.5mg/night of clonazepam for sleep.

Here is an article about l-thenaine and schizophrenia: L-theanine is Effective in Lessening Positive Symptoms, and improving Sleep Quality in patients with schizophrenia

I can’t sing the praises of l-theanine loud enough, but that is just me, everyone is different. others may find it useless.

If I am feeling completely fine, and I take one, I don’t notice any effect, but when I feel like sh*t (anxiety and agitation) and I take one I feel better.

l-theanine has a half-life of about 1 hour, so after about 5 hours it is almost completely out of your system, that is why I take one every 3-4 hours, so it’s always in my system and I always feel fine.

Again, if you are feeling completely fine, and you take l-theanine you won’t notice anything, at least that is what I found. But when I have anxiety and agitation and I take one boy do I notice a difference with about 1/2 hour.

Since everyone is different there is a chance it won’t help you but I would suggest you at least try, I’m glad I did.

I also take 5000+mg of glycine a day too.
