Hello, I am mostly wondering if antipsychotics can work well with antidepressants. I am on Risperdone and Haldol, and want to be on Prozac, too, but I am worried that they might be interacting badly together… Any ideas?
I used to get depressed a lot, sometimes deathly depressed, but since I’ve been on lithium I don’t feel that way anymore. I wonder why they don’t prescribe lithium as an anti depressant. Worked way better than the Zoloft I used to take

Thanks for your answer but I 'm overweight and I don’t want to risk taking lithium because of that!
Hey, combining antidepressants with antipsychotics can cause a very rare but very serious side effect called prolonged QT syndrome. It can cause cardiac arrest. Definitely get checked out by a doctor first, and get an EKG to make sure your heart is in good working order. 99% of the time it’s safe, but you always want to be extra sure.

Been on risperidone and seroquel. Seroquel helps with sleep also. Risperidone does have major withdrawals when going off it. But did help with relieving psychotic symptoms.

I haven’t been on all of those together but I did use to take risperidone. none of the three times I was prescribed did it help. right now i’m on Haldol injection, latuda, lithium and amitriptyline.

My pdoc specializes in mood disorders so he always prescribes an antidepressant along with an antipsychotic. Some antipsychotics like lurasidone, quetiapine and aripirpazoel and brexpiprazole have antidepressant qualities.

Did risperdal consta shots at 75 mg. Just had lactation, no menstrual periods, HUGE weight gain and diarrhea so bad, got fired. No one discussed side effects otherwise could have protected job with ‘accommodations’ for health side effect, but not required to honor these unless you qualify for FMLA (at 1 year full-time work).
Never had anything stop the voices, then met another person claiming to drive people crazy and explained how she wanted to use me. I just ignore a lot of auditory hallucinations and a lot of screwed up confused strangers. This area is putting nutty church people on sex abuse victims to verbally harass them so not a very nice area anyway. This is how some areas with long running sex abuse by wealthy covered it up later, people were told they had to attend church ‘to be okay here’ and these are turned into hate-monger attackers on the innocent victims of the mess, even working. Can have voiced turn on again after meeting someone else who wants to use you plus nutty strangers attack…is really bad if alone and female. No way out, even if a sex predator tries it…no Cops or courts help, have to run by sadly some of the sickest wealthies can spend a lot of their time abusing people and giving chase without any legal ramifications/defense of the poor/workers.
I get to sleep with 500mg seroquel plus ambien 10 mg sometimes. I can ignore the voices and I work at home now to deal with the social issues around this area. Limit my time out in screwed up spots…Is okay solution. I function as long as I sleep.

They put me on prozac and haldol after my first episode and i hated both. On haldol my back would arch and i would get stuck in a position with my arms in front trembling. Not too mention the drooling, oh how annoying. And there was the 30 day constipation. Prozac made me restless as heck. On the two combined i was asexual, not good feeding into delusions.

I was on Risperidone before I got put on Vraylar recently.
It worked for me for the first month but kinda suddenly stopped working despite upping dosage; I liked it at first but then it just stopped doing the job I wanted it to.
I’ve only been on Vraylar the past 2 days and liking it so far, it helps with my motivation and energy and seems to stop or at least die down the hallucinations and delusions for the most part, as well as my paranoia.

I take rexulti, saphris, Lexapro, Topamax, Cogentin and Ativan, Rexulti is an ap but works on major depressive episodes for me. Saphris is an atypical ap that works for hallucinations for me. Lexapro is a ssri that works on ocd for me. And to make the ssri safer I take the topamax as a mood stabilizer to decrease the chance of a manic episode.
so I think risperdone is an atypical ap, Haldol is an ap and Prozac of course is a ssri. I don’t see why you shouldn’t be able to try it if your pdoc monitors you closely. Are you sza?

I added small dose of Prozac to small dose of Haldol.
Prozac helped with depression but caused diahrea .

At the risk of being a complete dick, maybe you should let your doctor weigh in a bit more beyond “Okay, I’ll write it.” when it comes to the drugs you take.
Well I didn’t try Prozac but I was on risperdal and Zoloft and Zoloft is the exact same class of med and works the same way. I didn’t have any issues interaction wise and it worked well for me, was probably the most stable I ever was.

I have been on a combination of Risperdone and Haldol and I think Risperdone caused my diabetes. I have been on Haldol most of my life and plan on to take it.

Swap prozac with sertraline, and yes its a good combination.

I was on abilify and cymbalta for the longest time and it worked well. Now I’m just on haldol but have been wondering about going back on the cymbalta.

I think the antipsychotics do dampen the effect of the antidepressants a little. There is such a wide variation on how people react to different med’s. I knew one guy who could take any amount of Stellazine without it affecting him. Just a little bit of that stuff puts me flat on my back. If the depression is too unbearable, and no antidepressants will work, you might try one of the newer “atypical” antipsychotics. I was always pretty miserable on an antipsychotic until they put me on Geodon and Seroquel. Those drugs control my symptoms without making me into a zombie. You might ask your pdoc about that. Also, there is a wide variety of antidepressants. It’s been my experience that pdoc’s are relatively easy going about prescribing those. Prozac isn’t the only antidepressant. You might try some of the newer antidepressants.
