It was only about a 15 minute jog, but I feel pretty good. There was a lot of snow on the ground luckily the sidewalks were mostly cleared. When I got back home I weighed myself. My weight didn’t change. Then I drank a ton of water and ate some tuna.
I am pretty out of shape. It’s the first time I’ve jogged in months. Last time I jogged I was 20 pounds heavier. Having less weight on my body made it a lot easier. I’m still 267 lbs.
i wouldn’t jog at 267lbs, that is simply too heavy even if you have a meso-endomorphic build and strong joints. really the upper limit for where you would want to jog distance is about 200 lbs, and at that weight you would have to be well over 6 feet or have a very sturdy build. at over 200 pounds you will simply injure yourself every time you run any significant mileage. what i would do if i were you would be to try walking, which is lower impact. you don’t feel as athletic doing it, but briskly walking 5 miles burns roughly the same calories as jogging the same. and you’ll be able to do it consistently without weight hindering you. as an overweight person i was consistently walking 4mi everyday and lost a considerable amount of weight without overstressing my joints. to make it fun listen to podcasts or create music playlists or listen to audiobooks while walking. with this and serious calorie restriction (very unhealthy, do not try!) and intermittent fasting i went from 190 to 160 over the course of two months during a med change. it was effing hard and dangerous! it was unhealthy, losing weight that fast is dangerous and can cause lasting damage. i even experienced hair loss and thinning from doing something so extreme. don’t make that mistake! i’ve sibce gained back more than half that weight! while on atypical antipsychotics it CAN be impossible to lose weight, though everyone is different. remember that your health comes first rather than concerns about looking a certain way or whatever.
If I didn’t figure out my feet I’d probably agree with you more. I have a tough time finding shoes where I don’t have an issue with tendonitis and shin splints. Ever since I started wearing wide shoes I really don’t have an issue with my feet. My shoes feel like they fit perfectly. So I’m not really concerned about my feet.
As for my knees you probably have a good point @Anon10. If I have any pain it’s probably smart to take a couple of days off.
everyone is different, and the body has miraculous ways of adapting to stresses. for a jogger who wants to stay in shape you are just the right size if a bit large. 5’10 and about 200 is huge for a competitive distance runner though there are some big guys who have made it work like chris solinsky. i think you would enjoy your workouts much more and be a beast if you dropped a couple pounds though you have to find a balance
