The running club 🏃

I know we have a general exercise thread already to post ur updates etc. but I thought it would be cool to start a running thread in particular cause I’m interested in getting into it. Anyone who’s an avid runner give me some advice on gear, apps, marathons etc.

Ooh love this thread idea!

My advice is start with intervals. Say run 30 seconds and then walk 2 minutes. Slowly transition to more running and less walking

Yew runnings the beez kneez. I dont really use any gear really. But i would say that its definitely worth it to get some really good bouncy running shoes. I’ll screw up your body if using bad shoes.
But man.. the post run mental clarity and mood boost is unmatched compared to other forms of exercise ive tried. I find early morning not long after waking is best for me.
Also i cant run without my bluetooth in-ear headphones playing some energizing music. Usuallly really crazy metalcore or something.
Also, if youve mainly only done strength training in the past, start of really easy ok yourself with running. You dont want to screw your knees or something. 20 minute light slow jog without stoppping is really good starting out for me. I saw huge improvements in how far and long and fast i could go within weeks.
When i was running every day (sometimes twice a day) i lost 20 kilos (think thats like 40 lbs?) In a few weeks of fat. Along with eating better.
One more thing. Maybe dont use a treadmill. They make it too easy for me. I usually jog about 30 minutes and im completely dead. But if i use a treddy at the same pase it takes like an hour or two to get the same amount of exercise out of it. I think they kinda assist or something?
Thats everything i can think of.
Nice thread topic poet!

I know this might be an up-popular opinion, but I believe running marthons is too hard on the heart. I wouldnt run for longer than 1 hour per day.

Yeah bro. The hearts a muscle and just like other muscles, you shouldn’t over train it. I remember reading a study that said people who do lots of marathons had evidence of some type of heart damage.

Id say a minimum of 10 minutes a day and a maximum of 60 minutes a day is great for your heart health.

Just finished a steady state treadmill sesh. I didn’t go for super long because I got some exercise earlier, helping my uncle move a heavy ass washing machine from their basement to their front floor.

Its been months since I last drank alcohol or smoked pot. Im feeling good.

Thanks man. I feel I’m making progress. Appreciate it. I weighed myself just now and I’m at 199 now so I broke 200 today. Very happy about that.

Thats amazing dude. I wanna get below 200 so bad. I last weighed myself on March 12th and I was 242. I’m probably 239 right now. Maybe 238 at the lowest. I dont like weighing myself often on weight loss journeys because I dont wanna see little progress then feel frustrated. I’m probably going to weigh myself once a month.

True dude cool sounds like a plan. I know what you mean it’s frustrating to work your ass off and not see the scale go down. I used to be downright obsessive about it.

@POET - Do you have a goal weight in mind? If I remember correctly your 5’10 or 5’11? Id say 170 or 180 would be perfect for you.
