In the morning before breakfast I take Jardiance, Glipizide, Metformin and my joint pain pill.
Before Supper I take Glipizide, Metformin and my joint pain pill.
I take nothing at lunch.
I’ve read that Glipizide is supposed to function all day for lowering blood sugar, but my experience is that it does not work as much, maybe even very little, over the long term.
I find myself having higher blood sugar after eating lunch up until awhile after supper when the next dosage kicks in.
Anyway, since doc doesn’t want me taking more doses throughout the day, I think my solution is just going to have to be to skip lunch.
I was going to try to give advice but I don’t know much about these issues or medications etc. I was thinking maybe you wanna keep blood sugar stable by not skipping it but idk you obviously know your situation much better.
I cant really skip breakfast even if I wanted to. My instructions are to take diabetes meds in morning with breakfast and with supper. My blood sugar would drop too low if I didnt eat breakfast and took the medication.
Ah that sucks
I dont know if skipping food really helps, my therapist who is also a registered nurse recommended i eat atleast 3 times a day.
I was heavy into fasting but i started getting light headed
I check my blood sugar very frequently, so am keenly aware of when blood sugar dips and peaks.
Yeah, my doctor said the same thing as well, but I don’t like the possibility of long term effects from high blood sugar.
Because I monitor my blood sugar so closely, I can see that it generally drops and levels off after some time without food. This is not always the case, but usually. Skipping lunch does seem to keep blood sugar at an acceptable level for me on the occasions that i do it. Of course, if it dips too low, I will go ahead and eat.
It probably won’t hurt you to skip it, but if you need something you could maybe eat something high protein like unprocessed chicken, or something fat, like a tablespoon of coconut oil that may stem your hunger. Just avoid carbs and sugar and I think it will work out.
I heard of people who just put a tablespoon of coconut oil in their coffee and call it a meal.
From what I’ve observed, my glipizide seems to be at peak effectiveness 1.5 to several hours after taking. If I take my pills somewhere between 6 and 8 in the morning, breakfast blood sugar will be driven down in a couple hours. If I eat lunch though, with no meds, it seems to take a very long time for my body to process off the sugar. Because it takes an hour or two for my glipizide to kick in when I take at supper, I may have 5 oto 7 hours of too high blood sugar when I eat a significant lunch.
I don’t know, its all a bit of a guessing game to get things perfect. I just want to keep my blood sugar in acceptable levels as much as possible. I have read a lot about high and low blood sugar and the damage it can cause long term, and am very keen on keeping it in check.
I think the most important thing is to keep blood sugar levels fairly consistent so skipping meals might hurt you as well. Can you do like 4 smaller meals maybe? I know i dont practice what i preach here. I have prediabetes and also barely an appetite most days so i just dont eat which isnt good either.
It still appears to me that @Bowens is best eating only when taking meds and it is very sensible to keep blood sugars under control to avoid worsening health. If he is skipping lunch, its not a big issue its more a solution to the problem. Diabetes is serious and progressive if not controlled sensibly.
