I may have to go on a crash weight loss/exercise program. I have got to do something about my weight. Just weighed myself. I am 235.
I need to lose at least 45 lbs. Maybe I can still reverse diabetes. Or at least improve it some. I need to do it soon. The longer I wait the less likely it is to happen.
I am determined tonight. If only I can stick with it tomorrow and beyond…
NOt to eat jack! lol. seriously. I plan on cutting my portions down to very little. I need to make some progress. Can my will power hold out with this plan of attack? I dont know.
Cutting portions does help. Just always eat recommended portion size or even a bit less.
The first week to ten days can suck as your stomach gets used to less. But soon you will feel full easier. The weight seemed to fall off first time I did it.
Maybe I should wait a few days for my test strips to arrive as well. I have some ordered but it may be a few days before they get here. I only have one left. Cutting back too much on food and taking glipizide could make my blood sugar low. I need to be able to monitor closely.
I could also go to walmart and get some more in the morning I guess.
Hi @Bowens. Yeah be careful with your blood sugar. Going hypoglycemic wouldn’t be good.
They say the best diet is the one that works. I would just hit it from all angles, try everything you can find information on that you judge as legitimate, and see if any of them work for you.
Don’t diet; change your life. If you eat healthier food, start walking or doing some other cardio you like (swimming is great for bad joints), you’ll be much happier than if you try to reduce your portions to less than you’re truly content with. Grilled chicken breast, unlimited veggies that aren’t too starchy, plenty of water, some fibrous cereal or something like that for breakfast, and some fruit, too. But if you aren’t feeling full (not explodey, but comfortable), you are much more likely to have issues with bingeing. My hubby has diabetes now as well as CAD. He’s struggling with the same things.
I met a man with juvenile onset diabetes at the psych hospital I went to last year. I talked to him a lot because my hubby was new to diabetes, and no one told us what to do or how to proceed. The young man suggested counting carbs, not calories. He would still have snacks, but he’d find things like sugarfree cookies. He said not to skip any meal- do three balanced meals a day. There are some great websites and even a forum or two for diabetes. Definitely worth checking out.
The issue is, I have tried these things. Thanks for the advice, but its time for drastic measures. Dieting and exercise. I am still determined this morning. Had a handful of peanuts for breakfast and this is all I plan to have until supper, unless blood sugar goes low. I am desperate to lose weight while I still have a chance of reversal of diabetes. My blood sugars have been very poor lately. This is a risk of nerve and organ damage as well. Alternative routes have failed.
I lost 30 kg (66 lbs) through long walks and replacing my lunch with a Huel shake. They are 400 kcal, full of protein and vitamins and filling. I would recommend them (or a similar brand if you prefer).
A handful of peanuts only for brealfast isn’t healthy. Nor is it sustainable.
A good low carb, high protein breakfast will full you up and keep you full longer so you don’t want to have another big meal at lunch. You could then have the peanuts, then a low carb snack, then a low carb dinner that is small.
You can free munch on veggies all day. Cut them into sticks and bag them for the next day each evening.
Thanks for the advice zombie, but I dont plan on sustain it. I am going to try to go on a crash diet, lose weight quickly, then resume a responsible eating habit.
When I was psychotic, I went to the hospital feeling ill. They diagnosed me with diabetes for the first time there, so I knew I had it. During psychosis, I believed I needed to fast for delusional reasons. I lost huge amounts of weight by occassional fasting. When I was in hospital involuntarily at a later date, they tested me for diabetes and I was good. I reversed diabetes once accidentally through fasting. This is a less drastic route than that, and I believe I can do it with a temporary small breakfast, small supper and some exercise.
I do appreciate the concern on from you all though. I agree its not sustainable forever. I just plan on doing it long enough to lose the weight necessary. As long as my willpower holds, I think I can do it.
I should say that I don’t recommend dieting this way for others under normal circumstances. I’m only doing it this way because I fear continued high blood sugar damage, I’ve been trying to lose weight for a long time, my doc is not helping me to keep blood sugar down, etc etc… This is a last resort drastic measure to control blood sugar and reduce weight to hopefully improve insulin resistance and possibly reverse diabetes. I have tried other methods for a long time.
