I am currently feeding my puppy dry puppy kibble 4 times a day but I want to incorporate some wet canned food. Into his diet because wet food has some benefits that dry kibble doesn’t.
I was thinking about starting him off with feeding him a tablespoon of wet food first thing in the morning before I start feeding him the dry food later on in the morning.
I realize that I’m going to have to reduce the amount of dry food at his first dry food feeding to balance things out.
Do you feed your puppy or dog dry, wet or a combination of both?
mine get watered down dry food. i think its better for them. every dog ive ever seen who ate wet food had bad teeth. i add water to help with constipation and to get them to drink more water. they like it. and theyre teeth are very good. one of them also gets a tablespoon of pumpkin in her food twice a day to help with her digestion.
i add 2 cups water to 1 cup dry food for each of them cause they arent big water drinkers. and i let it sit for usually 5-10 minutes. i dont let it get really soggy.
one of mine is on a 50/50 mix of a prescription dog food and another food for stomach issues and allergies. the other is on 100% a food for stomach issues and allergies. its so expensive. the bags range from $70 to $110 per 30 pound bag, but they need it to be healthy. so mine are a combanation of science diet and purina pro plan.
one of mine gets purina pro plan but i worry a bit after they had a problem with their prescription dog food having too much vitamin D and it killed some pets. but the one mine is on wasnt recalled. and she is doing well so i dont want to switch it but i lost some trust in them after that.
I have my border Collie, lab mix on 1 cup of “light” food twice a day. She’s about 55 lbs. Next month I’ll switch her to a “regular” food as we become more active and go to the dog park. She’s always on light food during the winter and regular calorie food during the summer. I only give her wet food as a treat, she’s used to the dry and has no dental/health issues.
I only give her a couple tablespoons as a “relish”…sometimes I put salmon in her food, too, if some of the salmon in the freezer gets freezer burned (we always have lots of salmon, it’s part of living in Alaska). She likes that even more than wet dog food, and it keeps her coat silky.
one of mine is on a salmon dog food cause she is allergic to chicken. and she takes fish oil. her coat is so shiny and pretty. both of them have pretty coats actually.
I cook steak, boneless pork butt steak, chicken thighs, salmon, tilapia, shrimp & tuna for my dog mixed with different rice and veggies with blueberry & bone broth he’s effing spoiled
mine also both take probiotics daily. they are so expensive haha. the probiotics come out to like a dollar a day or 2 dollars a day. i cant remember now. i stocked up so havent bought them in a while. and one is also on CBD oil but i get that from a company that gives me a low income discount so thats not too bad
