Mine is ancient . 10 years old? I hardly ever use it . It’s small and fiddly for my hands. Today it took me ages to add the number of the Richmond fellowship to my address book.
I prefer to use the old landline and am not in situations where I usually need to use a cell/mobile. I scrolled down to delete several numbers and in the process inadvertently activated call to several numbers-quick disconnect was called for!
How essential is your cell/mobile to you? Is yours state of the art or a fossilised model like mine?
I keep it in my car for emergencies but I also use it at work. I work in a huge of office building and our crew is often spread out in different wings and on different floors. It is so handy when I have questions to call my boss instead of spending 15 minutes walking all over searching for him.
Don’t have one… Gave up replacing mine after the last two seem to die right after the warranty expired. Seems to be the case with electrical devices these days… In my day when you brought something it lasted just about forever…Wonders off in the other direction mumbling under his breath. But you can clearly hear “■■■■ I’m getting old.”
I have an entry level type of smartphone. I use it to phone my dad once a week and to whats app my few friends. I sometimes use it to log into this forum and facebook. I can easily do without it if I have to. It is not essential
I have a state of the art smart phone, I mainly use it as a medication management tool.
I set up multiple alarms and I will record the time and which med I took on a task list.
Also, I have certain apps I like to use, mainly to help me organize and record Drs appointments etc…
I connect to this site via cell phone many times - I rarely use it to make phone calls - sometimes I will use the text to connect with certain family members.
I also go online a lot and research different things etc…
I have an Apple 4s. Use it for phone calls, email and text. Also online. Esp local resources(help such as doctors or businesses). Map App is great! I can get to out of the way places easily with its audio directions. Essential! Don’t like worrying about its dying.
I have a smartphone. I dont use it for much…basically just to make calls and text people(mainly family). I do have an app on it for world of warcraft that comes in handy for the auction house in the game. Other than that not much use.
I’d worry with a new smart phone whether it would be too complicated for me to operate. I can access the internet on mine but the screen is tiny and accessing and posting to websites painfully slow. Have never really got the hang of texting(all fingers and thumbs) but am amazed at how quickly some people do it.
I would say that a cell phone is essential, I have a very simple phone (the simplest in the market place), in the society where I am there are no landline phones any longer. We do not have any phone booths either, last ones in my little town were removed 10 years ago.
I have had my cell phone only seven years and there was a reason why I got it. My father was in the critical condition in one university hospital after a serious surgery. We had a landline at the time, but it failed and I had to keep my contact with my father to provide him some psychological support while he stayed there at the hospital in the critical condition. He eventually recovered and still lives. So this cell phone provided me a method to influence my father positively psychologically to strengthen his willingness to live and I believe partly due to this he survived.
I have a Blackberry phone, use it mainly for Whatsapp and smses, but also for music, making home videos and playing them for fun, and photos. Also useful for checking email and alarm clock.
I have my second dinosaur. I dropped the old one too many times + it fell apart. Phone, text, camera. I take it with me everywhere I go and don’t feel safe without it. I sort of wish I had a landline incase of an emergency situation when you can’t use a cell phone, but don’t.
I am happy to say a few days ago I went and traded in my smart phone for an old regular cellphone with no internet on it and I cut my phone bill in half to come and don’t owe any bill at all for two months on account of how much credits I got.
I’ve had a Verizon flip phone for 6 years. My plan with Verizon costs me $15.00 a month and minutes “roll over” each month. Since January I have over 5 hours of time saved up and credited to me.
I love new technology. I have an iPhone 6 which to be honest is not much different to the previous model don’t know why i upgraded. I pay about £43 a month for my contract.
Not after what Edward Snowden leaked (Hahaha). No, I don’t have a cell phone because I can’t afford one, not even the most basic phone with the most basic plan. I only really used my cell phone for guitar sheet music anyways.
I’m on a government pension but have an iPhone 4s. I’ve been a captain of a cricket side so sending texts and calls is a thing you need to be able to do. I text more than I call but do accept calls so the cost is just the minimum.
I held out for years but apple is the ■■■■ when it comes to phones! I like iTunes and have a huge library so an iPhone is cool. Applications are handy- I have one called walkmeter that uses gps to show you your walking route and time and distance…amazing for $5 and it inspires me to exercise. I can tell at a moment that I need to walk more!
It’s not such a bad thing to be connected. Having music and tools at your convenience is a good thing. For example. My math is horribly bad because of schizophrenic brain so a calculator at your fingertips is great…much better than those old eighties calculator watches!
Soon you’ll be using your phone for other things and that isn’t bad. Technology is sweet for me!
