I’m new here and have been diagnosed with schizo-affective disorder. On the outside, I look like anyone else but no one knows the madness going on inside. I was originally diagnosed with schizophrenia 10 years ago. I haven’t had much of a life since then because I stopped taking medicine. I believed the voices that the medication was making me jerk and would kill me. My voices give negative commentary to everything I do. I’m slow, dumb, trashy, trifling etc and they are going to help me become a better person, if I don’t eat, don’t sleep, and stop showering. At that point, I’ll look like trifling and they will help me be something else. I’ve never believed them and refuse to do what they say so they give commentary of my daily activities screaming for me to stop.
I’m currently on Risperdol 2mg, Seroquel 100mg, Paxil 60mg, and Wellbutrin 150mg. I’ve tried Abilify 20mg, made me feel like I couldn’t stay still, Latuda up to the highest dosage, now is Risperdol. I’m thinking I need to be on Zyprexa or Haldol. Something heavy hitting to knock these voices out. Am even willing to try the med that I’ll need weekly blood work for white cell counts. I just need them gone and soon. My mother passed away early this year and since then it’s been hard to just ignore them. Also, since I started Risperdol I’ve noticed I’m responding to their taunts.
Please give me your opinions on the best medicine for auditory hallucinations and why? Did they quiet or make quieter your voices? Thank you for taking the time to read and maybe respond.
Clozapine is ment to be the best for hallucinations followed by Risperdal, i wasnt able to take clozapine due to bloodwork but im on risperdal and it works 70-80%.
Maybe you could increase your riderdal or seroquel your on a low dose so you have lots of room to move.
I’m on 4 mg of risperidone and it works for me at least. I have some side effects like itchyness and lack of sex drive but the voices are gone. How long have you been on your meds? Even though I noticed a difference in the voices in like a week they just went from screaming to talking. Then after a while I heard them less and less. Now I barely hear them after about 2 years.
I’ve only been working with the doctors for about 3 months but have been going through this for 10 years. I just need them gone and want to go to the Dr with suggestions on meds that will work at least somewhat. I’ll ask for a raise in mg of Risperdol on my visit this Monday. Thank you all for your suggestions.
I’m just curious about this as I have family that have had a lot of auditory and visual hallucinations that have made them suffer a lot. I had a bit when I was younger but I just started adamantly telling them to ■■■■ off. It seemed if I had interest in them they got louder and if I told them to get the ■■■■ out and focused on chanting or white light around me for protection it would make it go away. I am curious because my mother was diagnosed schizophrenic at 21 after a suicide attempt. She brought herself out of it through her life with a really clean diet and no substances and meditation, yoga, and art. She always heard sounds but often it was beautiful music she would then create. I’m in my last semester of nursing school and have interest in helping in this puzzle of suffering. I just am not sure if the system as is is what it should be. It seems like there should be more diagnostics to see what works before just throwing any ol med at people which all have side effects. I suppose it just such an emergency for a person that they just try them and see what happens because it better than doing nothing. Does anyone know if there are antipsychotics that are better for visual hallucinations than others?
There is a research paper showing that amisulpride is the best for positive symptoms ,if you are just experiencing positive symptoms you can ask your doctor for amisulpride and abilify combo to counteract the gain in prolactin
