I’ve been on here for a little while, and I’ve noticed that almost all of the young people on here are goth, dark, humorless, jaded and unkind. The older people here are of a different generation, the kind that enjoyed life in their youth, and didn’t ever feel so abandoned or critical to call it all worthless. I’ve been quite worried about this newer generation, and I wish there was something I could do to change it.

I think that the younger generations couldn’t out do the music of the older generations youthful days. Music is one of the most powerful expressions of identity of a particular generation. And they couldn’t possibly have out done the sexual revolution of the sixties and seventies, and not to mention the “me” generation of the 80’s.
At their age, I was a cocky grandiose ass! The younger generation around here seem to be a smart bunch.
Like most people in their 20s they do like to have some fun - I was the same way back then

I’m 56, and when I was these young people’s age I had many of the attributes you mention. Many young people lack maturity. I don’t think they’re worse than any other generation.

C’mon, Daze. I’m 54, I don’t know how old you are. But I was a punk when I was a kid. We drove around drinking beer, smoking pot and stealing gas. When I was the age of these kids I wouldn’t have even been mature enough to write on these forums! So give them a little credit. When I was in my late twenties I was certainly not a shining example for anyone to follow. I was smoking crack, trying heroin, wrecking cars, cheating, lying. At least these young guys and girls come on here and listen to us old folk and try to do good in their lives.

Ok I knew this post would generate some criticism. My main beef is that kids today don’t live in the light it’s all darkness. OK maybe there are those who achieve but even these are not motivated by love happiness and well being. I did have mental doom at age 20 but I didn’t get to the heart of it by wearing it on my sleeve and with everyone I was in contact with.
I disagree, but I think that younger people’s humor is different from older people’s humor. Do you think that I’m a humorless, unkind, goth?
Also the generations that grew up with access to the internet from cradle to grave are considerably different than earlier generations in life experiences and what they deem important in life.
No group of people are going to fit neatly into one box. I think there is a pretty diverse crowd here myself.

Differences in generations: we had Cindy Crawford smiling beautiful. Now the models are ghosts who never smile and look like coke heads. We had MTV and they turned that into crap reality shows. We had cheerleaders and pop catholicism and Hope.

I hang out with my nephews quite a bit. They are wild young men. I was wild in high school. what bothers me is that they don’t like my music. I like their music fine. I feel like my music is superior (haha) but they just shrug their shoulders when I try to turn them on to the mega groups of the sixties and seventies. I don’t know.
Sarad: I bet you’ve never been tested in life and so you try pushing the envelope in every thing you do just for no reason but that you can and you call this freedom the same freedom you piss on as in the united states and maybe someone will say to you one day sarad you are a walking contradiction. But you will be too determined to fool everyone with your own hypocrisy
