My gp said that if I get the dx of autism there might be more support around me for jobs especially but there is no guarantee I will get diagnosed. I can maintain eye contact I’ve noted but it does get uncomfortable after a while.
When I was younger my teacher always used to tell me off. “Why you looking at the floor when talking to me “. Think it’s something I’ve learned over the years.
If you get diagnosed with a learning disability (intellectual disability) you’ll get tones of support from specialised services which don’t just cover mental health conditions like generic MH/ASD services. They cover emotional well being, supported housing, sheltered work, sexual health, benefits, vulnerabilities, mental health, challenging behaviours, and unlike generic MH services they don’t fob you back to your GP when you are in remission where you then get little support. Intellectual disability services within the NHS are there to help you for life if need be. I’ve had the same community nurse I see twice a month for 8 years and I’m in remission these last 3 years. I wouldn’t get this level of support from the learning disability if I just had SZA. I’m very well supported.
