Would you switch APs if you suffered sexual dysfunction?

I’m on 4mg of Risperdal and other mood stabilizers and I’m experiencing ED issues (Erectile Dysfunction) and diminished libido.

Also I’m experiencing retrograde ejaculation.

My Prolactin levels are high but not extremely above normal range.

Are these issues enough for me to switch to a different Antipsychotic?

Would you switch to a different AP if it were you?

Risperidone is destroying my sexual functioning.

Try switching to a different women. I always get my man up and hes schizophrenic.

I think it really depends if it is important to you at this stage in life. I am younger than you, and frankly would not be that big of a deal to me I dont think. Completely your prerogative of course.

Yeah the thing is I’m very stable on Risperdal
I’m scared to jeopardize my stability if I switch

Id say zyprexa, invega have low effects on ed. But also diet and exercise. Research which foods increase or decrease testosterone and be sure to excercise your arms ĺegs abs and pelvic muscles. Decrease sugar, basil licorice etc increase oats eggs leafy green vegetables garlic turmeric cayenne pepper etc is a good start.

Maybe add a small Abilify dose like 2-5mg?
Abilify made me hypersexual.

Nah I have sexual dysfunction but never really cared. If the drug didn’t kill sex drive at the same time maybe I would have cared, but without sex drive I don’t care.

Invega is as bad as Risperidone for sexual function.

Age is also a big factor. I don’t have sexual dysfunction either on 5-6mg risperidone but I think @Wave is in his 50s and we’re under 33y.o.

man risperdal made me suicidal because of sexual dysfunction…as soon as I got on another med I felt better and started dating again…I have to have sexual function…it’s a huge part of my ego.

It’s the stimulation of the 5-HT₂ and 5-HT₃ receptors that are thought to be responsible for the sexual dysfunction associated with SSRIs and their cousins.

Options include switching to a lesser offender, such as mirtazapine or nefazodone, or adding diethylpropion. Lowering the dose can sometimes be successful.

Edit: I misread your post. It says “AP” (antipsychotic) not “AD” (antidepressant). My apologies.

I may ask my psychiatrist if I could add a low dose of Abilify to my cocktail.
This may help.

I have Viagara. I thought it was Latuda but it’s Geodon. I can’t go off Geodon. I have tried. But I went down to 40 mg twice a day instead of 80. That helps.
