I’m experiencing weak erections and loss of libido on Abilify 250ml injections.
Also tired often, and sleeping too much, but it’s mostly the sexual side effects which bother me.
Looking to switch to another AP. Any suggestions?
In the past, a low dose of risperdal (0.75mg) I was okay with, but I want to try something better.
let me know when you find one, ill switch too. As far as I can see it they all cause sexual dysfunction to one degree or another. Latuda isn’t as bad as risperdal though
Geodon doesn’t give me sexual dysfunction unless I’m on a super high dose.
So far I’ve had a very good experience with rexulti
Oh, also, there is an anxiety med called Buspar that my doctor put me on back when I had sexual side effects on the high dose of Geodon. That might be an option for you as well.
I’ll ask my nurse tomorrow about Buspar.
Maybe my Abilify is too high? I’m at 250ml injection. (Not sure ml is the right measurement)
(trigger warning) I remember I was on this one med that really affected my vigor and my ability to pleasure myself. later on, I figured out that I am very likely to excite myself, while planning out or writing a poem. so now I’m wondering if I would be able to excite myself with poetry, even while taking my old med.
Seroquel actually increases my libido and sexual pleasure. I’m on Seroquel and Rexulti.
Doctor doesn’t want to switch my Abilify just yet. I’m having it reduced to 200mg depot injection, hopefully this should help the problem.
I was on Invega before and read that it could take 6 months for it to leave the system. It’s been about 5 months now so i’m starting to think its the Abilify although it is possible it could be the Invega causing the sexual problems.
I have all my liquid, but my erections are weak and my libido is low.
Most people on here who take Abilify aren’t experiencing sexual side effects, I’m one of the unlucky ones.
Do you guys think it’s the Invega at play or my dose of Abilify is just too high which is causing the sexual problems?
I take 400 mgs of Seroquel at hour of sleep, and I have not noticed any negative sexual side effects.
I have sexual dysfunction on Abilify. It’s more common than you think, I think the belief that sexual dysfunction with Abilify being rare comes from drug company marketing.
In terms of sexual side effects.
I’m wondering which is better between Geodon and Seroquel.
I just want this problem to go away as soon as possible. I will try to convince my Doc to switch me.
Are you continuing to take the Abilify? If so, how much are you on?
I feel the pill form causes less side effects than the injections, even though they say otherwise.
It’s something you can’t predict really, some people can take drugs well known for sexual dysfunction and be fine.
I take a 400mg Abilify injection monthly. I’m going to try coming off meds all together in a couple of years. Hoping for a period of recovery but doubt it will happen. Still though going to try getting off these meds as life is just passing me by.
I’ve been on meds now 7 years. At first it was awful, I just couldn’t cope on the meds and hated the fact that they caused sexual dysfunction, but after 7 years and a high dose of antidepressant it does not bother me as much.
I think both Geodon and Seroquel are both supposed to be less likely to cause sexual dysfunction but everyone is different.
When you say doesn’t bother you as much, do you mean you gave up on caring or the problem got better?
I’d like to come off the Ap’s and just stick to my lithium, but I’ve tried that and it’s not an option anymore 
Maybe I should convince my doc to put me on 2 mood stabilizers instead of having an AP.
Still have sexual dysfunction but you get used to it. I’ve given up trying to find a med that doesn’t cause the problem. I’m going to try getting off the meds in a couple of years when i’m in a better position in life, doubt i’ll be successful but want to try. What symptoms do you get when you come off the AP?
When I went off the AP (I was taking a low low dose of risperdal back then, 0.75mg, which didnt really cause sexual dysfunction surprisingly) I went a good 7 months or so before entering a manic state. But I was more irritable. I would start arguments with my parents over nothing.
Sexuality is a huge importance in my life, I need to get back to normal functioning ASAP.
I’m in the prime of my life right now, single, muscular and 25.

I don’t really know what to say, I was just a bit younger than you when I started meds and felt the same way. I’m stuck in the same position. How bad are your manic states?
