Anybody here work for less than 1200/ month while on Ssdi? Did they kick you off Ssdi since you could work a couple days for low pay? What’s your experience?
I’m not on disability yet but hopefully. If get it may still babysit some with help. I was doing it in exchange being taken care of while have no money. I know couple people work and have no problems but do yard work, sit patients dont know if claiming money.I know any work really can get you kicked off or work like activities if shows able hold down job don’t need disability . Some people work though do whatever want don’t have or problems
No, SSA will not kick you off if you earn less than the sga (substantial gain amount). They will, however, penalize you if you fail to report your income.
Ok. Have you worked while on Ssdi @gene?
Yes, both jobs earning less than sga and jobs making beyond sga.
@gene where you been?
What did you do about SSA when you were making more than the sga?
@anon80490300: I worked a sales job for 4+ years where my monthly income exceeded the sga. SSA gives a 9 month trial work period for anyone receiving disability wanting to try and work (earn) more. So for the first 9 months, I received wages from work plus SSDI. After 9 months, my income came solely from work.
@roxanna: I’ve been here, just not as often
I do. I’ve been through every trial work period and worked part-time and collected it, worked forty hour weeks and collected it. Now, after 40 years of working, the worker told me I can be on it indefinitely l. But I can’t make over the $1200 you mentioned. I don’t even have to mail them my pay stubs anymore.
Wow! That gives me hope. Thanks for letting me know
By the way, @77nick77, what kind of work do you do?
When I’m not busy training thoroughbred race horses or working graveyard as a bartender on a cruise ship I like to spend my spare time moonlighting as a janitor in an army reserve office building.
Minimum wage is friggin $16.00 in the city where I work, a small fortune to me, plus paid vacation. No one is going to oust me from this job, I know a good deal when I see it. The only way they will get rid of me is to drag me kicking and screaming from the building and padlock the doors behind me.
That’s awesome! You’re so lucky!
ive been working the last three and a half years at walmart. i make about 900 dollars a month. i’ve already used up my trial work period, and i just passed the end of my extended period of eligibility. no one has officially told me that i passed that period but it should be true by now. so if i earn more than 1260 in even one month, they are suppose to stop my benefits and i will have to rely on the expedited reinstatement period and hope it works out.
i feel like i’m in no man’s land now…
So if you make 900 it goes toward your 9 months? What’s the maximum you can make without it going towards your work trial? I’m a little confused about that. I’ve read 800 and 1200 so I don’t know which one to count
I recommend you look it up on SSA website. It usually changes every year
That says $910. Less than that you don’t have to report it all.
tomcat stated the current trial work period amount. the 1260 number is the substantial gainful activity level.
i’m super knowledgeable about social security’s work rules, so feel free to ask anything.
@TomCat said I don’t have to report earnings under $910. Is that true @Linate_Smith?
