Coffee is a pretty natural herb. It’s not for everyone but I’d say it’s great for some people. Can really help with people who have problem with depression.
The problem most of the time is not coffee but coffee abuse. People drinking 4 5 6 cups of coffee a day.
In many cases tho a cup a day keeps the psych doctor away.
I only ever had coffee at my granny’s house, and it was mostly milk. When I was young, my parents would give us 25 cents to choose something we wanted from the store. My sisters always bought a soda from the vending machine outside, but I chose candy every single time. As a result, I didn’t get hooked on coffee or other caffeine. I just had cavities. My desire for candy went away as I aged, and I don’t drink soda at all now, though I admittedly did for a few years. I think not having it while growing up made it less appealing to me as an adult. I will, however, drink an energy drink if I have to be awake for something but can’t shake the fogginess of nighttime meds in the morning. I was hooked on those for a while but cannot stand the taste at all anymore, and drinking them is pure torture. I’m going to have to have two on have for Christmas Eve and Christmas, though, just in case. Blech.
I’m hypersensitive to it too. I lose all my scruples when I drink it. Even if it’s just one cup. It’s the same with tea and coke. Most people seem to thrive on caffeine, but for me it’s a nightmare. I wish I understood how bad it was for me sooner.
Whenever I stop drinking coffee for a day, by the next morning, I’ll get this horrible headache and my blood pressure jumps sky high. One of the biggest reasons I fought going into the psych hospital was they didn’t allow any caffeine in any form, and caffeine withdrawals made for some terrible days.
There was a French writer named Balzac who drank fifty cups of coffee a day. It killed him too. He died of caffeine poisoning, but he is regarded as a towering literary figure. I’ve read three of his books, and they’re good.
Caffeine is one of my last “vices.” I LOVE chunky coffee. I put flax seed in my coffee and it gives me my fiber and a good slap to wake me up.
I really need to cut out the energy drinks, because I’ve been dealing with severe anxiety. I stopped drinking the higher caffeine energy drinks and I also cut out my pre-workout. I feel a lot better. I limit myself to one energy drink a day, usually about noon. I like the Monster Recovery teas.
