Why I like being older

Im no longer insecure. When I was younger I used to talk non stop out of nervousness. I would also try to use humor at every opportunity, to try to appeal to others. But now Im lucky beacause I can relax around others and not use humor like I used to. I now know how to be quiet with people better than I used to. And you know I like it.

Why I like being older, although I do not consider 41 an old age–only 90+ is old --, I have a healthier mind-body functioning now then as a street kid then. I am seriously lucky my bone tissue has been repaired by nutrition.

For me fitting is has always been about where I stand with others in terms of ethics.

Deeply searching, each day I take a moment to look into the world and find special qualities of nature and people and structure.

At this age, I see myself as wise as the image, source unknown, depicts:

Karl, do you feel you become more wise each day, too?

I suppose in a way you can call it wise, my behaviour is more mature.

Yes. You are wise. Some ā€˜old enough’ folks are not wise and remain immature. Not at all easy to be around them.

I grew up around older people in their 70’s and 80’s, although if you closed your eye’s, you wouldn’t know they were that ā€œoldā€ except that they were more responsible, stronger, and secure than the people in my age group.
I never feared getting old, just wish my body would’t feel so old.

I know exactly what you mean I no longer have to be me PLUS
me plus funny me plus clever me plus sensible I can just be ME.

I don’t know if I have gotten any wiser with age or not. I don’t have that kind of desperation that I had in my youth, but there is quite a bit going on with me that is intense.

I feel I’m fairly wise and ā€œconsciousā€ for my age but I’m still trying to learn to be more ā€œnaturalā€. I’m reading up Taoism and the author says there are 3 stages in life…The natural unconscious stage, the awkward but conscious stage, and then the 3rd stage when you put the 2 together. I feel I’m on my way to the 3rd stage but might take a few years. But at 24 that’s perfectly normal.

I have assisted some blind folks in that age range. I would have never known they were blind if they hadn’t told me. Talk about self determination!
