So I tried like 3 Atypicals : risperidone, quetiapine and arpiprazole. Risperidone only worked in high dozes and was on a depot, was constantly tired and exhausted. Quetiapine used to knock me out and give me weird feeling in the gut, like being intoxicated with something and gave akathisia. Abilify was also brutal : increased anxiety and constant binge eating. Now on haloperidol and have 0 bothersome side effects, dont experience any TD or dyskinesia.
The atypical antipsychotics often block the serotonin receptors more than the older ones. And since you like taking Escitalopram, it is likely that your serotonin levels are already low.
Haloperidol and Escitalopram both prolong the QT interval, so watch out for that interaction. Have an ECG if you are concerned.
I was taking escitalopram with risperidone, which causes the same interaction. My pdoc willingly prescribed it to me knowing the interaction
Yes, Risperidone also prolongs the QT interval. As long as your Doctor is ok with it.
You may be of low risk from the interaction, your Doctor will know from your medical records.
Haldol gives me akithisia, but benztropine keeps it under control. Otherwise I don’t have unbearable side effects
Benztropine or other anticholinergics are very helpful to treat some side effects of antipsychotics. I used one called Procyclidine for over a decade to treat restless legs and feet caused by antipsychotics, it also helped me sleep better.
Anticholinergics did affect my short term memory quite badly when I was on Paroxetine, they have also been thought to increase the risk of developing dementia.
