Why am I so afraid to work?

I only play instruments by ear. I can’t teach anyone, but yes, joanna newsom is my muse.

Just because I’m not on a payroll doesn’t mean I never work

You’re high functioning, though! At least you had the gusto to land a job and seek to work at it. I’m only moderate functioning.

Thanks @Patrick

This is what my work britches look like :frowning:

Working is tough, you gotta expect that. SZadmin is right, there are few jobs that are degrading. Hey would you consider being a proctologist degrading? Think of what they are doing but they are respected doctors. They are needed and so our factory workers.

I’m sorry this is so tough for you but consider yourself lucky that you can get any job. Hey, when I was 18 I wanted to be a lawyer. Now I’m a janitor. I don’t care, money is money. I think wearing steel-toed shoes is cool I like those things. But I understand that you’re having a hard time. I hope you can handle it, I really do. People are usually nice to new people on a job. They will give you a chance and try to be nice and help you.

Factory work ain’t bad. I used to work in a tobacco factory. There were lots of us young people and people were nice to me. I made some friends. Give yourself a chance. Just put one foot in front of the other. You’ve been hired at two places. You should be proud of yourself for going through the hiring process twice and succeeding at getting the jobs. I wish you good luck. This job will probably be less stressful so be happy for that. Working is not easy. No one said it would be. but it’s not impossible. I always figure that if I am healthy and teachable, then I can work. It’s just work.

Hey, I’ve had about 30 different jobs in my life. I’ve been fired from 1/3 of them. I’ve quit some of them after one day or one week. I don’t care; I just go out and get another one. I don’t want to minimize your fear but hey, you quit one job, then you go out and get another. I’ve worked for 30 years with paranoid schizophrenia and I’m crazy as hell. I worked for four years at jobs while I was clinically crazy. I can say one thing though, I’m proud and happy that I’ve done it.

I’m sorry you feel so bad that you’re crying. I’ve never felt that bad at being at a job. Well anyway, good luck at your job tomorrow, this probably all moot because you’re in bed right now but maybe you can get something out of it tomorrow.

Most of the safety wear is a result of best practices. You’ll be grateful for the steel toe shoes the first time someone drives a forklift over them or a heavy crate lands on them. Takes about a month to grow some muscle and then you don’t notice them anymore. The high visibility garb is a good thing, as are the safety goggles. Be grateful you’ve got an employer that wants to keep you whole – some are not so fortunate, especially in developing countries!

I went from being a highly paid network analyst for a Fortune 500 that managed 20K users on 5 continents to a guy driving dirty fuel truck with my name on my coveralls. But, you know what? The stress from this job isn’t killing me and I get to leave it behind at the end of the day. Pay is okay, too.

Keep looking while you are working. There is nothing worse than a job you hate and have to put on a false front just to manage. That, sounds like hell.

but to answer your question, I can offer you some tips:

Thank you all for your kind insights♡

I showed up at 6:45 a.m. and waited at the wrong gate for 35 minutes and someone finally came to tell me I was supposed to get a badge made at 7:15. Security only makes the badges at that time, so I missed my opportunity.

If my dumb brain had thouroughly read my paperwork I would have seen that I needed to get a badge made first. Another problem I have is focusing and paying attention. The staffing agent told me this yesterday and I totally blanked out.

So…I start tomorrow.

It’s not that big of a deal, it can happen to anyone, it’s not the illness. It’s difficult to know what’s what even for healthy people.

Good luck for tomorrow

First of all, your brain is not dumb :racehorse:

Second of all, we all make those mistakes. even “normal” people, it is tough going/doing anything new, we are overwhelmed with anxiety and stress and it hinders our ability to perform in an optimum manner :baby_bottle: :shower:

and third of all good luck tomorrow :dragon::rainbow:

“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t how hard you’re hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done. Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that!” - Rocky Balboa

I think that you are a brave and courageous woman. You’re a fighter and you can do this if you set your mind on it.
