Please give me some information about which antipsychotic has been proven to have the least amount of side effects!
Also generally what AP does everybody take
And why?and how does it help them in everyday life!
Thank you!
It’s about function. Most of us don’t have a choice. Psychosis and things like depression are most likely brain damage.
You don’t know till you try them. It really isn’t an exact science but the general rule of thumb is that side effects increase with dosage. It was more prevalent with the earlier meds like thorazine…ie the thorazine shuffle. The modern atypicals usually are better but the general rule is take as little as possible to get the best function. I still get symptoms but I’m happy with my lot. I haven’t changed doses or meds for well over a decade…
These things you need to talk to your shrink about. A good shrink has a good idea about things.
Medications tend to be trial and error for all who start on them. Some work wonderfully for some people and do absolutely nothing for others. Like @rogueone stated, the older antipsychotics tended to cause the majority of side effects, and new medications have less. But which one will work for you needs to be discussed with your pdoc.
Personally, i take Venlafaxine (for Major Depression), Ziprasidone (Schizophrenia) and Clozapine (Schizophrenia). This combination has been very good for me.
