SSRIs, prozac (decades ago) and more recently sertraline (zoloft).
Prozac was the first SSRI I tried. At first it made me more anxious, and therefore my OCD symptoms were worse, but then at 40 mg, three or four months in, I felt much better. Currently on Zoloft 200 mg, and it’s working well. Lexapro wasn’t too bad at a higher dose.
risperidone…imo
Just time, tried Prozac once, and had a bad experience myself, but it had changed over time
What kind of OCD symptoms do you have?
i think Aps help ocd more than ADd, imo…
I was on clomipramine, worked well. It’s the only drug FDA approved for ocd
Obsessive doubts, compulsive washing, contamination doubts etc
My ap stopped my ocd too. I was obsessed with many things like prayer, I prayed like 10 consecutive times when unmedicated. Now I don’t have obsessions with Risperdal 3mg.
ocd is due to brain damage, its due to lack of continuous activation of prefrontal cortex. taking medication will not solve it instead we need to redirect our focus away from the needless thoughts and that is the basis of ERP or Exposure Response Prevention therapy for ocd. medications like SSRI only target the anxiety part which is not a solution as it can numb other thoughts too which causes memory issues and others.
exercising the mind by solving puzzles will help to activate pfc which in turn can reduce ocd behavior.

Celexa helped a lot at first, then antipsychotics helped even more; abilify did really well. But now celexa kinda stopped working as well, so I’m making a switch to Zoloft.
