and if you believe they will be more effective?
Sz will be cured someday.
I don’t know when.
- Don’t know which drugs.
- They’ll be only slightly more effective than current drugs.
- They’ll cost 300% more despite only being 2% more effective than current treatments.
This is how it has been my entire life.
Actually I believe that the older more traditional drugs are more effective.
The newer drugs are weaker.
They are basically very expensive antidepressants
If scientists not knowing the causes and any medical tests for diagnosis of schizophrenia, then it is false to hope for medicine which cure.
I hope that Science will provide new and better treatments but I’m sceptical.
There have been many posts here on the topic.
Now in trials:
KarXT that works as acetylcholine agonist, not dopamine med. Could be out in a year or a bit more.
Brilaraxetine dopamine stabilizer could be out in 12-18 months.
Ulotaront / sep 363856 Trace Amine Associated Receptor med could be out in 16-25 months.
So there are 2 meds with novel mode that could be out in USA in 2 years, but expensive.
How much do they cost?
The cost the same each year as the Empire state building.
If approved, based on other new meds, they could cost around $1500 a month. Some insurance may try to limit coverage.
My psychiatrist is actually trying me on a new medicine that is essentially Zyprexa mixed with a weight-control drug… it’s called Lybalvi. It’s not a new AP per se, but it is a new version of an existing one that seeks to address its biggest side effect. Hopefully it works for me.
Newer APs in the future would be nice.
Challenge for scientists is to find a drug that can erase both type of symptoms and no matter what condition the patient is in and maintain the good state for long time.
