Do you think there will ever be better antipsychotics?

Do you truly believe that the meds are going to get better? Do you have no idea? Or do you not care?
I don’t know how to make this a survey so I thought I’d ask.

Yes most certainly. There are countless new drugs in every stage of development by various companies. The process may seem unacceptably slow, but new and better drugs will certainly be available at some point in the future - hopefully soon!

I think better antipsychotics will come, eventually. Now, that doesn’t mean they are going to be a heaven. But given the speed with which mankind is progressing in science and medicine, in a matter of some decades there could be better, and I mean much better, APs.

I can only hope, but they may just be so expensive they may not be made ready to Medicaid members for a while.

There will be better antipsychotics, but I doubt a pill can make sz habits disappear.

AP’s with a better side effect profile already exist, but I don’t think that they are so effective in controlling my symptoms.

If they can manufacture effective drugs that cause minimum side effects, this would be great.

In my opinion the newer drugs like Vraylar, Rexulti and Latuda are not potent enough and make poor Antipsychotics.

Everyone is different.

Good question @firemonkey.

a cbd extract pill in its purest form would probably be the best ap 300 mg 3 times a day was the dosage used in the trial it would be great if it was covered by insurance also and not sold through dispensaries because no one would be able to afford it

Stay positive about the future. There’s way too much negativity in the world. With science advancements happening more and more, and with faster and more powerful computers advancing, I’m sure there will be better medicines on the horizon.

Information is instant now thanks to the internet, whereas 30 years ago information took a long time to get to EVERYONE.

I watched a cancer research program about how computers are advancing cancer research by 10,000+ the speed they were 10 years ago. Information is flowing around way more efficiently than there was before the internet.

I’m staying positive and believing there will be much better medicines for schizophrenia within 10-15 years.

I’m gonna stay positive on this one.

Well said Green. That sounded pretty realistic to me too.

Actually I have hope that better (safer) more effective Antipsychotics will be produced but I believe that it may take years.

I’m guessing 10 more years to be exact.

Just a question of when.

Probably, if/when clinical practice catches up with findings from basic science.

For what it’s worth, I watched a video on YouTube* in which a doctor suggested that there is a ~17-year lag from research to practice (not just in psychiatry but in the entire field of medicine).

*I think the video was called “Depression and Anxiety: Causes and Solutions”
