When you first hospitalized, how does the psychiatrist determine which antipsychotic to give you if you never be on med before? What happen if you get really bad side effects?
I’m pretty sure I started with olanzapine
I think it was olanzapine, another time it was seroquel.
Did they start you on low dose or high does to see if it work?
Largactil , quite a heavy dose I think. Nothing for the side effects. I was like a very restless zombie.
Risperdone. Low dose and tweaked during my stay.
I think they started with 5mg zyprexa, or olanzapine.
I think it was Clozapine

My first ap was risperdal 2mg
How long was you there? Did they do anything about your side effect?
A week. I had no side effects then.
I wasn’t placed on an AP during my first hospitalization.
Just, Tegretol, a mood stabilizer.
I didn’t get an AP at first either. Just Zoloft.
When I did get an AP it was Zyprexa but I didn’t take it very long. The PDoc told me it wasn’t working and switched me to Geodon. I have been taking Geodon ever since.
I didn’t honestly notice that Geodon was any better but I stayed on it. It works now but I take it twice a day and the maximum recommended dose.
I didn’t get drugged the first round at the hospital either
I was “hospitalized” for 2 hours in the ER and I was given a typical drug (sorry but I forgot the name)that is not used now. It caused blind spells, sedated me throughout the day. It was prescribed by an ER doctor after I had gone through 3 days and nights of screaming at the voices hoping to make them stop talking. Shortly before I admitted to my parents I had voices in my head because I just about reached the end of my rope but they decided to go on with their vacation anyway. I called the ambulance while they were away because I had a rapid heartbeat that scared me. They didn’t follow up until months later after I failed at 2 jobs due to incompetence. Then I had my first doctor’s visit specifically for the schizophrenia. I used a smaller amount than prescribed so I could sleep at night and stay awake during the day when I experienced full blown psychosis. I was then put on haldol followed by risperdal with periods of trying other drugs since I was still hearing voices. I was not hospitalized almost 2 decades after that due to side effects from a med. About 4-5 years later I had a relapse due to a second drug before I had to settle for risperdal/invega and got hospitalized 4 times.
Olanzapine 20mg, restless legs was so severe that I was up for days with no sleep.
Olanzapine works rather well when taken in small doses, but I was a train wreck.
They put me on a high dose of haldol during my first hospitalization. My vision was so blurry I couldn’t read.
all different kinds of crap, I passed out while in patient, they had to start an IV.
At my second admission I was put on abilify which is since then, 2016,the only ap I’ve been on
I was kept on olanzapine first 15mg but it was doing nothing so they changed it to haldol and I lost myself with stiffness, lock jaw, and voice went. I could hardly move.
