I started out on risperdal…good grief that med wrecked me worse than I could imagine, plus since I was early in recovery it wasn’t long and I became suicidal…had two attempts…decided to get on with life and find a new med and that’s what I did, I went from risperdal to abilify and that med caused me my first marriage due to bad decisions with a lot of finances…horrible med for me. we found a “donut hole” in financing the abilify (my first wife was sz too), so we switched to the older meds and I finally got on generic prolixin (fluphenazine). saved me…love this med.
I agree @anon17326926 it took finding the right combo. I take 2 APs 2 ADs 1 for anxiety 1 mood stabilizer and 1 benzo as needed, which is not often. Im more stable now than i have been in Years.
I was on Quetiapine or Seroquel at first and that was just a day hunch prescription by a walk in doctor. She was right to prescribe me something of the sorts but I watched so many serial killer documentaries because I was absolutely desensitized. I could tolerate any traumatization. It was scary so I never went back and had a bad experience with two interrogating practitioners, one was training and asked if she could be involved. It wasn’t good. I made certain they knew that the next time around and I was originally prescribed the same thing but a psychologist said no, we’ll try something else. Which was risperadone, that has worked really well for me. So I guess what works for one is not what works for all.
The first help full antipsychotic I got was Clopixol 27 year. Then I got another add on antipsychotics 20 yeard agonthat.counteracted my condition. 11 years ago I got on a 3 antipsychotics that was very help full. I quit the unhelpfull antipsychotics over a year ago. And one year after quitting that antipsychotic my condition improved dramatically.
So today I’m on Clopixol 500 mg every 3 week and 800 mg Seroquel for life.
It took years to find the right med. Clozapine is generally a pain in the ass med, what with all the labs and side effects, but it sure has helped me stay out of the hospital.
