how do you ignore voices…is it possible
I’d recommend : music, talking to other people, stay away from white noise. But honestly I think the only thing that can quiet the voices is the right medication… for me that was invega
If I calmly concentrate, I can change my voices from angry, violent ones to something easy to ignore. The trick is to stay calm and not get upset by them. You also have to completely believe that you can do it. If you don’t think it will work, it won’t.
Watch tv, listening to music, being around other people, keeps you out of your own head !
Medication for me was olanzapine and that’s worked to quieten them down! Not gone completely, but I’d have to strain to listen to what they were saying!
If the voices are not very loud, try using some background noise, such as a fan or playing music without any singing.
If I ever go to a place where there lots of other people all talking at once, I get overwhelmed and get very distressed. I am totally unable to cope that situation, so I avoid that sort of thing.
Even if I go to a quiet place like a hospital appointment, I need to take enough antipsychotic medication before I go so I don’t freek out.
Also I can get severely paranoid when I with anyone I don’t know, I think they are watching me and talking about me, and I think about what they are thinking about me.
I have been mentally ill for a long time, have not even been to the town which is only 1km from my home for over 8 years, and I have not been in my garden for over 3 years. Because I am so worried about people talking to me.
I only really tell anyone about me on here, because everyone here understands me and are nice to me.
