I’m a SZ, however I’ve never had visual ones, maybe except some minor, like seeing earrings in one’s ears in a form of a short flash. I heard that only about 25% of SZs have them but I’m afraid that one day they may get me. Do they seem real? Or are they some form of a blur and you can distuinguish them from reality?
I se several forms of visual hallucinations. I see gremlins, shadow people and giant bugs. yes they seem real, I have to have someone tell me they aren’t real because I get so scared of them/
this must be terrible. Is it possible to interact with them? have you ever tried to do it?
the only time they are interactive is when I see bugs crawling out of my skin and have to smack myself on the arm to get them to go away.
I’ve had plenty of visual hallucinations and they are terrifying. Sometimes they happened when I closed my eyes. I would see blobs of colored light appearing and disappearing slowly from the outside of my vision to a pinpoint at the center of my vision. The colors were very deep and varied from red to purple and orange, as well as other colors.
In the late 1980’s I was incarcerated in the state hospital in Elgin Illinois where I experienced intense visual hallucinations - all manner of visions, like time stopping in front of me, communist concentration camps, and cannibalism.
Then two years ago, I was in jail for two weeks, during which time I spent 12 days in a cell by myself where I hallucinated for most of the time. I saw a nuclear war from far above the Earth in what I believed to be a mind reflecting device in near Earth orbit that also traveled in time. The images were projected onto the cell walls and floor with stunning realism. I saw huge pieces of real estate being hurled into the sea, and nuclear explosions with their telltale markings on the jail cell.
Visual hallucinations do happen. You are fortunate if you don’t experience them.
@cbbrown damn. Does it hurt physically? I once felt like spiders were going through my throat after watching Harry Potter, but I didn’t see them.
@magicmindedman I’m glad I don’t, even withou them SZ can be rough. Don’t take it seriously, but it sounds like st. john’s apocalypse to me…
What is St. John’s Apocalypse?
I mean the end of days that you saw from the above. At least it ounded like the end of days, the nuclear war thing. Such visions would scare the ■■■■ out of me.
tactile hallucinations can hurt sometimes, some times I feel a shadow person squeezing my toes as I try to sleep. the razor spiders hurt when they touch. but the bugs crawling out of my skin just feels weird a little painful.
Yes, they were terrifying, except that I felt removed from them since I was seeing them from outer space - I mean the ones when I was in jail. When I was in the state hospital I was scared nearly to death. But that was a long time ago. And remember, these are hallucinations based on the culture in which I was raised, not on any real ability to prognosticate.
Some were scary, some were nice.
I have visual “hallucinations.”
Sometimes I see pretty benign friendly types of things like rabbits at work.
Other times I see really scary things like the white man who has no eyes and razor sharp teeth, the blue man, the grey man who crawls around my backyard and knocks on the house to let me know he is watching me.
I once saw a giant iguana type lizard with a big black head and glittery body walk along my mum’s verandah and sit at the opposite end of the table to me.
I see the shadow man. I’ve always seen him since my twenties, I’m 35 now.
When I am stressed at work I see swarms of rats building up around me, or spiders on my desk.
@magicmindedman sure I know
although some of my audial halucinations were later interpreted by me as forseeing the future, even when I felt well some of the stuff that happened rang a bell that I knew it earlier. But anyway seeing the world end, even in some sort of a comfort zone, sounds terrifying.
@Minnii in what way nice?
I couldn’t always tell the difference. Some of my memories may very well have been hallucinations.
I either saw black shadows or beings of light. The dark shadows were terrifying, the beings of light were supposedly aliens and my friends.
@all did you have these visual halucinations from the very beginning of the ilness or did they come with time?
From the beginning for me.
They got more frightening and frequent with time.
They look real but for me I know they’re not real because the things I see are impossible. Like there’s no way people are actually hanging in my closet. The other stuff I see is just trippy. Floors swirling, floating colorful lights, colorful lights around people, walls melting, things swelling like they’re breathing.
