@Anna did you have the hallucinations from the very beginning? Or did they appear with time?
Probably connected with this and concerning stimuli, most probably an alteration of the interpretation of the informationā¦
My case is kinda weird. I had vivid visual hallucinations as a very young child but they went away as I got older. Then they came back to a lesser extent (the ones I just talked about) when I was about 15, which is when I started to go into my first major psychotic episode.
Mine were scary as ā ā ā ā .
Peopleās faces transformed into demons. Bad times.
My visual hallucinations get more severe the less sleep I get. Like Iāll start hallucinating more frequently than normal and Iāll start seeing more weird things like once I saw a giant clown peek out from behind a mailbox then vanish or I would see peopleās faces alter as I talked to them which usually made me have to keep myself from laughing because it looked so ridiculous, like their face shrinking on their head or their face floating in front of their head like a mask. I wonder what the mechanism is behind that.
Oh yeah, trigger warning!
Iāve seen all types of stuff during my episodes.
Liquid mercury in the form of a smile oozing through the air and forming around my face for one.
Paratroopers coming through my light sockets in invisible light suits and shaking the ground when they landed. I think I have lesions on my brain from all the LSD I took in high school. There was a resurgence of the Grateful Dead in the 90s and I went to a bunch of shows. I took liquid acid and mescaline often, smoked pot and hash, and did cocaine.
Iām not schizophrenic but I have psychotic episodes.
Iām pretty sure the drugs did it to me.
Visual halucinations can be pretty cool unless your paranoid.
This is actually a thing
āWhile the majority of hallucinations reported in primary psychotic disorders are auditory, they may also be visual, olfactory, tactile, or gustatory. Visual hallucinations have been reported in 16%ā72% of patients with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder.ā

āAuditory hallucinations were by far the most common, followed by visual hallucinations, and then by tactile and olfactory or gustatory hallucinations.ā
Thats really exact isnt it? ā16-72%ā
I donāt get a lot of the visual hallucinations that look perfectly vivid. Mine are always very surreal and appear faint or in flashes. Like appearing whenever I blink, but they still disturb me deeply. And they often have such a heavy presence that I have to believe theyāre there. Sometimes my body gets all cold or I get a little nauseous due to them.
I see mostly bugs, things warping and moving, faces distorting, people, animals running around, and things changing colors and patterns.theyāre not very vivid but it takes me a it to figure out that theyāre not real, usually after having a panic attack about whatever it is. Not all of them are bad though, just easily startled. Been having them since I was a kid
sometimes I have complete fails in my reality⦠begin with aggressive visuals then pop im no longer anywhere I recognize⦠doesnāt feel real nothing is interactable⦠but I can see nothing else⦠these are rare I could be convulsing in a corner for all I know⦠most of my visuals I can tell are not real⦠either their so insane they cant exist or no one around me is paying it any attention⦠even knowing most of the time the difference between real and hallucination doesnāt make them any less scary, annoying or distracting⦠hitch hikers in the rain is one I cannot tell if im avoiding a hallucination or if im actually leaving someone stranded⦠donāt drive anymore so if the driver doesnāt mention seeing someone standing on the side of the road I just ignore it. I know I have d.i.d also but those moments are more im in my house and the sun is going down then bam im outside 4 blocks down and ive lost hours and I never remember shoes⦠lucky havenāt wandered too farā¦
When I had visual hallucinations, I closed my eyes and saw visions of absolutely gorgeous young women that would turn into grotesque monsters that were horrible to look at. One woman after the other would turn into a grotesque monster. The last woman got into a fist fight with me and punched me in the stomach and I felt it just like an actual punch in the stomach.
