I’m getting close to 30 years old and have had Schizophrenia/POCD for 5 years. Do we start to get better slowly and are able to reenter the work force or is it one of those illness that cripples you for life. What about independence. I moved back with my mom after I got sick at age 24 and I worry she can no longer take care of me at her age of 60. What do I do now, should I sell my computer and get an apartment? I only make $670 a month plus $80 on calfresh. I guess I’m asking is how do I move forward with my life after being sick.
Side note: I’ve been mostly stable for about 2 years but still enter psychosis when I go out in public so I’m mainly home bond.
One thing you can do is to look into fixed income housing. There’s usually a waiting list for fixed income housing, so it’s best to start the process early on.
thank you, do you know if it covers buy a plot of land and ordering a prefab home for it. I’ve heard some horror stories of section 8 housing or is that different then fixed income housing?
I have gotten better. I am working now but schizophrenia will be with us for life. There is no escape unfortunately. Everything you do will be harder.
If your moms home is paid off she may leave it to you. I will leave my son my houses. They may not be paid off but they will have plenty of equity. He can just sell them and pocket the cash.
I’m not really sure to be honest. I’m assuming you’re in the states since you’re on SSI? I would call or visit the social security office and ask them what assistance you may be eligible for.
