My future and my family’s future

I get really bogged down about what will happen to me when my mom passes. She’s 73 but she looks a lot older due to smoking for over 40 years. She’s my only support and is my payee for my SSDI. My SSDI is not enough to support me and my son anyway. Plus my mom has had 2 strokes in the past 6 years. My pdoc is 78 and is refusing to write a letter saying I can handle my own benefits because I texted 2 bizarre messages to him over the past 21 years.

Is there anybody , like a social worker, that you could speak to. You may be entitled to receive more benefits than you’re getting if you have a dependent child.

Sorry, I don’t know how it works in the USA…

yea i worry too about the time my parents can’t take care of me anymore… i don’t know what will happen then. pdoc says i don’t need to worry about the future, that things will work itself out… so i try not to think about it too much anymore.

You could try a different pdoc. Maybe a new one, after getting to know you, would approve you being your own payee

Yeah that’s what the Social Security Office said too. Problem is my mom is the one who found my psychiatrist for me and I don’t know how to go about finding another one who will take only Medicare Original. I have Medicare Original because it pays for my 6mg Risperdal that I take nightly. I pay only $1.30 for 30 pills because I have Part D coverage.

But I think you’re right, @lekkerhondje, everything always works out. If I spend too much time worrying about the future, I’ll miss out on the present. Things are pretty good right now.

Call around to different pdocs (look up online for psychiatrists in your area) and simply ask them if they take original Medicare.
