Im on ssdi but have had to work part time to cover food and essentials. Well lately ive been getting really bad and going on leave from work, i dont know how im gonna afford it, i guess food banks. But im worried this will be a permanent or long term thing. I dont see how i could keep living alone.
Can you move back in with one of your parents? That’s what I did initially when I couldn’t work anymore.
Technically yes but theyre toxic . My mom is an alcoholic and starts fights and they frequently argue and yell and it triggers my ptsd.
Can you apply for low income housing?
Maybe? My house is only 600 a month tho
That sounds affordable. Maybe you can make it work on benefits?
I only get $860, so that covers rent and utilities, still need to afford food essentials and pet food
You say you live in a house? Maybe move into something smaller.
In my area 600 is about as low as you can get but its a very small house anyway
Can you get some financial support from your parents if you can’t live with them?
I’m getting run down lately after my zyprexa was lowered so much, just because I’m not sleeping much. I worry about deterioration, my mind is active but so burnt up and I’m not the only one in my building who has lost his mind and still goes on. It’s a funny phenomenon and it’s not total. I’m actually grateful for the medicine. I am realizing over and over I have sza.
Im thinking anout asking but i feel bad. Theyre raising my brothers kids already
I guess it depends on how tight or cushiony they have it. But usually older people have more savings.
They do but they need it for retirement
Try to find multiple food banks. The ones I used give only a little food so it’s necessary to go to 3 of them to help for a whole month. They only open monthly by me
I agree with @LilyoftheValley . We go to a few different ones. It isn’t a lot, but it stocks up the canned vwggies and rice. Sometimes youget stuff you wouldn’t normally buy. Like a few months ago I got a jar of capers. Never tried those before
I like capers on a chicken sandwich. And I really use a lot.
Have you applied for cal fresh/snap for food? They are pretty fast at approving. My renewal came with hiccups but they are covering all my food needs including inflation.
Yeah, thats what I was going to say. YOu really should be able to get heavy Snap benefits with that income and expenses. I’m confident that if you quit your job you will get significant benefits with your SSDI income alone.
Edit: Not telling you to quit or not quit your job though, thats a decision you need to make.
Edit: It’s been awhile since I applied with a job and not just SSDI, but I think you can give them your most recent pay stubs, so your reduced income would probably count on what you qualify for. I’m not even sure if you even need to supply stubs when applying for initial emergency approval.
THey do get more picky after awhile though. They are now asking for bank statements from me to reinstate my snap.
I get 400 a month for SNAP benefits. You should apply.
